Premier League refer Everton to independent commission over alleged breach of FFP rules

The Premier League refer Everton to an independent commission over an alleged of breach FFP rules, according to reports on Friday afternoon.

Everton was charged in relation to spending last season with an alleged breach by the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules.

After a 10-month investigation, Burnley and Leeds wrote to Premier League in May asking if Everton had violated the rules.

They had lost £371.8m during the previous three years, as Premier League rules allow clubs to lose no more than £105m in three years.

Clubs that break the Profitability or Sustainability rules are subject to a fine or deduction of points.

Both clubs were threatened by relegation at the time they signed their joint letter.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace and Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear both indicated that they had the right to file legal claims against Everton and the Premier League.

PREMIER LEAGUE STATEMENT:

In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today referred an alleged breach of the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules by Everton Football Club to a Commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4. The assessment period for which it is alleged that the Club is in breach is the period ending Season 2021/22.

Commissions are independent of the Premier League and member clubs. The members of the Commission will be appointed by the independent Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel, in accordance with Premier League Rules W.19, W.20 and W.26.

The proceedings before the Commission will, in accordance with Premier League Rule W.82, be confidential and heard in private. Under Premier League Rule W.82.2, the Commission’s final award will be published on the Premier League’s website. The League will be making no further comment until that time.

Everton are yet to comment but last year the club denied any wrongdoing.

“We have worked closely with the Premier League to make sure we are compliant,” a spokesman said. “We are comfortable that we have complied with the rules. External auditors have told us what we can and cannot claim against the pandemic. If clubs want to take legal action that’s their decision.”

This is what fans said as the Premier League refer Everton to an independent commission over an alleged breach FFP rules…

@ArsenalAnoop: Everton going down

@reidy_nffc: deduct points imo

@TrickyLMC: Points deduction

@VSG_Beacon: As a Forest fan. Relegate them now

@Lukenffc06: 134 point deduction imo

@Julian_00_a: Get them down together with City but they probably will let get City away with it again

@Todd_Swain: Make them employ Steve Bruce as punishment

@agbnufc_:
Cancel or refuse registration of players
Conditional punishment
The order for matches to be replayed
Points deductions
Suspension of club
Expulsion of club
Order the club pay costs
Take your pick.

@MC_of_A: underrated everton story is that they’re actually an oligarch club but no one noticed because (a) they hid it with a fig leaf but mostly (b) they are the worst run sports team in the history of the planet

@whukane5: disgusting. immediate points deduction needed. heard forest, palace, southampton, wolves, leeds, bournemouth & leicester were all involved as well.

@nhoblcfc: I speak for all Leicester, Leeds, Forest, Southampton, Bournemouth, West Ham, and Palace fans when I say a points deduction seems fair?

@LaneHusband1: And they say we’re spending our way to success. However, the irony isn’t lost that the Big 6 can get away with anything, but Everton are looking likely to be punished #NUFC

@agbnufc_: If we are following FFP properly then I want to see those who are not punished heavily. Simple as that, otherwise what is the point? PL sanctions include points deduction, transfer ban and league expulsion.

@tomclaret: This season’s been a lot more enjoyable and we’ll be back in the Prem next season anyway, but if this is upheld we’ll have missed out on a lot of revenue due to another team cheating. Wonder if we’d have another look at that legal case?

@WatchedToffee: Here we go. “The Everton board is revered throughout football and I know all the boards in football. They look at us and ask “what would the Everton board do? Because they always get it right.” #ThanksBill

@EFCMatt1: No wonder they’ve been terrified over the accounts. This owner & board have dug a grave for @Everton football club.

@Ifcamy: Shocking and vile. A point deduction sounds like a suitable punishment 👍

@MrBashe: It should be a points deduction either this season or next depending on when the outcome is

@YToffees: We’ve just filed our accounts with the @premierleague and despite selling Richarlison last season, we’re in deep doodah

@BigFrankPart2: Imagine spending too much, breaching the FFP rules and still being utter shite. The scouse mackems are fucked. #nufc #efc #ffp #everton

@ClayLaSoul: Everton’s net transfer spend the last five years breaks down to about 50m a year. Chelsea spent 600m last year. I mean, what are we even doing here?

@martefc1995: Haha the same period the board sold Richarlison to make sure they were within the rules. Everton board making mistakes? Surely not. #sacktheboard

@WattMilliams89: Only reasonable conclusion is a 10 point deduction riiiiight now please #wwfc

@ollie_copland: This will be fun

@ColumbusToffees: Actually a little bit impressive, albeit morbidly, to have a consistently shit team while spending way too much money to do so.

@Shaun1878_: This has been coming for years, I hope the premier league takes action against us because that’s the only way the dickhead fans who still support this board might take some notice.
