Prem clubs want Man City RELEGATED if found guilty – full list of punishments revealed

Prem club want Man City RELEGATED if found guilty of breaching FFP rules – with a full list of potential punishments revealed.

They demand that Manchester City should be expelled from the division if they are found guilty of 100-plus financial rule breaches, according to reports.

Monday’s news broke that the Premier League had accused them of numerous financial violations and referred them for investigation to an independent commission.

These alleged breaches included the failure to report accurate financial information, the submission details of manager pay information and player pay information within relevant contracts.

It was the responsibility of a top flight club to adhere to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations as well as the league’s profitability and sustainability regulations.

They are also accused of having violated rules that required them to cooperate and help the Prem in its investigation into the breaches. The league claims the investigation began in December 2018.

Man City posted a statement revealing just how surprised they were at the announcement of the alleged rule breaches, which referred to “extensive engagement” with the Premier League on the matter. The club also said they held “irrefutable evidence” in support of their position.

– City were accused of a series of financial dodges between 2009 and 2018 including:

– Hiding the true source of the club’s funding

– Declaring only part of salaries to players and former boss Roberto Mancini

– Breaching Uefa AND Premier League financial fair play regulations.

– Deliberately obstructing the Prem investigation since it was opened in December 2018, including during this season.

But The Sun claim that their Premier League rivals are ‘demanding blood and a swift verdict and punishment before the end of the season’.

One Premier League CEO told the newspaper: “If these charges are proven there must be proper punishment – and the only fitting one is for them to be relegated.

“We’re talking about a decade of alleged abuses and want the Premier League to do the right thing.”

The Sun go on to say:

‘Privately, City believe the Premier League was bounced into the decision by the looming publication of the Government’s White paper which will set up an Independent Regulator for football.

‘The club feels League chiefs briefed out the announcement to put them on the back foot before the mid-morning ambush but remains adamant the process will end with City entirely in the clear.’

Simon Jordan, who used to own Crystal Palace, reckons Man City should face “the ultimate consequences” if found guilty.

“What we don’t want to be looking at is financial consequences, because that’s not easy for them to overcome, is it?” Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“I like to think that if they’re guilty of the things they’ve been charged with, like any other football club, they get the ultimate consequences. That means points, that means the consideration of what division they play in.

“It means the whole rubicon being crossed and saying we either mean it or we don’t. We have a menu of consequences and the last thing we want to see is Manchester City getting a £50 million fine. They couldn’t care less about a £50 million fine.

“I’m talking about the consequences of their behaviour over a 10-year period. If they’re found guilty of 10 years’ worth of financial misrepresentation, what do you think that looks like? What do you think it means.”

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire explains:

“The main difference between the Premier League and UEFA is UEFA have a statute of limitations, which limits the availability of evidence to five years. The Premier League does not have that.

“UEFA have rules in regards to where evidence comes from and it can’t come from illegal sources. If you take a look at the Premier League handbook, it states that the source of data and evidence is an irrelevance as far as they are concerned, although this might form part of Man City’s defence that some of the evidence which is going to be provided by the Premier League has come from inappropriate sources and there is a lack of credibility with that evidence.

“I suspect some of the evidence that is going to be put forward by the Premier League to the independent commission has ultimately come from the Football Leaks, Der Spiegel and the Portuguese hacker because that was quite comprehensive.

“It was part of the overall strategy of the Premier League gathering together evidence, especially when they felt it couldn’t necessarily be obtained from the football club itself.”

What punishments can the independent commission impose on a club?

– Suspend a club from playing league matches
– Points deductions
– Recommend to the board that league matches be replayed
– Recommend to the board that the league expels the respondent club
– Order compensation
– Cancel or refuse registration of players
– Conditional punishment
– Order the club to pay costs
– Make such other order as it thinks fit

Manchester City's financial charges

This is what social media users are saying as reports claim that Prem clubs want Man City RELEGATED if found guilty…

@MTrezzy1981: That’s simply not going to happen. It will be a small fine and they will laugh at it.

@DonCorl38152157: Stick them in the lower leagues-back to their roots

@Dazzy696: He is absolutely BANG ON. As a derby fan, seeing my club guilty of what would be a whole lot less, I would expect the book completely being thrown at them and them being given the punishment that the rules dictate.

@insanitysobers: I don’t believe the Premier League will relegate them 15-20 point deduction & a massive fine. I would say this if the relegated them it would be a massive statement & it would make other teams take note.

@jcroft1991: Whatever happens .. you can bet the consequences won’t even come close to what happened between us (Derby) and EFL. City will buy their way out .. they have too much money and too good a legal team to be truly punished if they’re guilty

@citehxen: Of course they do. How else will they be successful

@calmufcdcfc: Throw the book at city and stop all this madness that’s goes on. The league have the opportunity to show their authority and make sure this don’t happen again!

@lostsoulofsport: A similar thing happened in rugby and Saracens were docked enough points to see them relegated. Why should football be any different? They have cheated and unfairly enjoyed success at the expense of other teams. They need to be punished.

@StrettyNews: There seems to be a narrative – presumably coming out of City – that this was an agenda pushed by other PL clubs. We’re talking 115 FFP charges here. 115. Just let that sink in a moment.

@IIIV1LLAIII: We all know what should happen to Man City, but we all know what will happen… a fine and a sternly written letter

@jakewithbeard: Don’t strip them if their titles that just causes a clusterfuck if retroactive champions. Relegate them and have everyone involved at the club thrown in jail

@SYjHeat: Richest club in the championships comes to mind

@JamesLu7980808: It’s about time. To even try n claim they’re half the size of Liverpool or Man Utd should’ve had alarm bells ringing but then to throw Real Madrid in tae that’s just beyond takin the piss

@ReeceLimbert: If the Rams, Macclesfield, Bury, Birmingham etc, got the ultimate penalty, then so should City. Throw the book at them.
