Pompey produce surprise win over promotion contenders Wigan

Fratton Park roared as Portsmouth produced a surprise win over Wigan in League One this evening.

Goals from Brett Pitman and Jamal Lowe helped Pompey sit level on points with playoff contenders Peterborough and Charlton, and stopped the Latics’ plans to return to the top of table. Will Grigg scored a late consolation goal. Wigan stay third.

Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett told Sky Sports after the game:

“It’s a massive one. That’s four wins on the spin at the right time.

“Wigan are a very good side, our keeper made two really key saves in the second period.

“I’m really proud of the players. The important thing is with six games to go we keep the momentum going.
