PLAYER RATINGS: Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Middlesbrough – Boro head to the top

Middlesbrough survived a late scare to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in the Championship tonight to replace Sheffield United at the top of the table.

Goals from Mo Besic and Britt Assombalonga within 10 minutes in the second half put them comfortably in the lead with stats on their side to suggest they could’ve gone on to score more.

In the 82nd minute, Adam Reach volleyed from 20 yards to set up thrilling finish.

However an equaliser couldn’t be found and Wednesday went on to lose for the first time at Hillsborough this season.
