Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey denies making Nazi salute during meal with teammates

A photo has emerged on social media, allegedly showing Crystal Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey making a Nazi salute during a meal with his teammates.

The player in the Instagram photo taken by German midfielder Max Meyer – which has since expired – is seen with his right arm in the air and his other hand just below his nose.

Hennessey took to Twitter to deny that he as making the salute, he said: “Yesterday evening I had a meal with my team mates and we had a group photograph. I waved and shouted at the person taking the picture to get on with it and at the same time put my hand over my mouth to make the sound carry.

“It’s been brought to my attention that frozen in a moment by the camera this looks like I am making a completely inappropriate type of salute. I can assure everyone I would never ever do that and any resemblance to that kind of gesture is absolutely coincidental. Love and peace Wayne”.

Of course, the photo and story has grabbed the attention of football fans, who gave plenty of reaction with many suggesting he came up with ‘the worst excuse you’ll ever see’ – check those tweets out on the next page.
