Non league side rename themselves with club creator and AFTV member Mr DT jailed

A non league side have decided to rename themselves with their club creator and AFTV member Mr DT jailed earlier this year.

Formed as DT FC in 2019 by AFTV contributor Liam Goodenough, the club initially entered the Essex Alliance League, and came top of the Essex Alliance League Senior Division come the end of the 2021/22 season.

In January 2022, following Goodenough’s imprisonment for domestic abuse, the club announced they had cut ties with Goodenough and applied to the Football Association to rebrand themselves.

Then it was confirmed that the club was admitted into the Eastern Counties League Division One South under the new name of Cannons Wood and look to try and win the treble, with a Senior Cup Final at Leyton Orient on the horizon.

CLUB STATEMENT:

As part of our development and growth as a non-league football club, we can now announce that we will be changing our name to “Cannons Wood Football Club”. Our home ground is only a stones throw away from the Canons Brook estate (spelt with one N) in Harlow so we all felt this was the perfect opportunity to create something that we can grow within the local community.

Over the coming years we aim to grow and develop grass roots football within the community and make it more accessible to all. At the forefront of this will be our first team who will be competing in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League (step 6) next season, our aim is to have a successful team that can continue to compete for silverware and climb the non-league pyramid, whilst opening a pathway into non-league football. Once we have completed our remaining matches including a cup final we will be updating all of our socials with website details and a new club badge. We will also be releasing details about our new reserve team which will be competing in the Essex Senior League Reserve division.

We hope this is the start of something special and that you can all join us on our journey. Pre season fixtures will be announced shortly as we look forward to seeing you all soon.

Non league side rename themselves with club creator and AFTV member Mr DT jailed

Arsenal Fan TV star Liam Goodenough, more commonly known by his YouTube name of ‘DT’, in January 2022 released a statement on Twitter in response to seeing his prison sentence increased from one year to three.

After an investigation by Thames Valley Police, Liam Goodenough, widely known as ‘Mr. DT’, was convicted of kidnapping, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and stalking involving serious alarm or distress after pleading guilty on the 5th of November 2021, at Aylesbury Crown Court.

Additional charges of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship and disclosing a private sexual photograph with intent to cause distress were to lie on file.

A court heard how, on the 24th of July 2021, Goodenough used a tracking feature on his victim’s phone to find her in Aylesbury in the early hours of the morning.

He drove to the victim, where she and her friend were assaulted. Goodenough dragged the victim to the car, however a member of the public got involved and was able to get the victim out of the vehicle. Goodenough then sped off.

He was arrested on 26 July and charged the same day, pictured in an Arsenal top.

Goodenough was at first sentenced to just 12 months imprisonment and was also given a restraining order for a period of 10 years.

However TVP and the CPS raised the case for review by the Solicitor General and on the 13th of January, the 42-year-old’s sentence was increased to three years’ imprisonment.

He has since taken to Twitter to update his followers on the situation, with a short statement that read: “I know a lot of you would have seen the news about me this week and I know I have let a lot of you down but there are always two sides to a story and mine will be told in good time.

“After months of receiving help and guidance I now know I was suffering from a mental breakdown and on that night I simply snapped.

“This is not me condoning my actions I am just trying to paint a picture of what was going on in my life at that time. All I ask from everyone is that you read the key parts of the report and not the sensationalised headline.

“I cannot apologise enough to my ex-partner for putting her through this. An eight year relationship will now be remembered for nine minutes of madness and I will forever be sorry for it.

“I want everyone to remember the innocent ones in this are my children. I am in regular contact with them but my actions have turned their lives upside down. All I can do now is serve my time and be a better father and man for it.

“I have also heard about a statement that’s been released from someone that I called a friend, again I will address this and its content in due course too!

“I’m sorry for letting you all down, I do not deserve anything from anyone but just know I am sorry.

“Take care and see you in a few years.

“DT.”

AFTV told their fans DT would never contribute to the channel again.

This morning we have been made aware of news regarding DT, who was a regular contributor on AFTV until July 2021.

“We are utterly appalled and disgusted by his actions and totally condemn domestic abuse, or violence of any kind.

“DT had made us aware of personal issues in his life, however we can unequivocally say that the extent of the information made public by the Government today is new to us

“DT appeared on AFTV on 1st Jan when the severity of his legal case was unbeknownst to us. The recent developments come as a complete shock to all at AFTV.

“In light of the shocking news, DT will be offered absolutely no place on the channel again.”
