Non league match delayed for 52 MINUTES due to referee’s flight from Albania being behind schedule

We’ve seen many weird and wonderful reasons for a matches being delayed, but this has to be up there with being one of the strangest.

It came in the Isthmian League South at Carshalton Athletic’s fixture with Whyteleafe. As it approached three o’clock, the announcement came that kick off wasn’t as imminent and that apparently the referee was running late because of “his flight from Albania being delayed.”

Carshalton eventually got the match underway fifty two minutes late and went on to eventually secure promotion from the league after coming back from 3-1 down to beat Whyteleafe 4-3.

What a way for the supporters to celebrate being promoted!

They join Lewes on going up from the league.

Cray Wanderers, Greenwich Borough, Corinthian-Casuals and Hythe Town currently sit in the playoff places with Walton Casuals having an outside chance of claiming on for themselves.
