Footage has emerged appearing to Newcastle United players Jonjo Shelvey and Karl Darlow in a fight outside a pizza shop at 3am in Morpeth.
It came seven hours before they flew out to China with the squad for the Premier League Asia Trophy, which they lost the semi final 4-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Shelvey suffers from alopecia and reacted badly after being called a ‘bald cunt’ by an abuser, before he replied back “go back to your council house, you peasant”.
The Daily Mail quotes a source, adding: “But a friend of Karl Darlow has then got protective and weighed in with a punch.
Fair play to his teammate for backing him up here.
“It would appear Darlow has also got involved in the fight. Shelvey is now getting some grief from the lads involved, although he was not involved in the actual altercation.”
Goalkeeper Karl Darlow allegedly kicked a man in the back. One woman watching the fight an be heard saying referred him to ‘that keeper guy’ and said of his actions ‘that was cheeky’.
Another man said to Shelvey, “Jonjo won’t do anything, he’s a skinny p***k.”
Police weren’t called to the incident and the club have declined to comment, though will no doubt hold an investigation when the return home.
