New footage released by ITV shows Hungary fans fight with police during their game with England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night.
Police fought with Hungary fans in ugly scenes during the World Cup qualifying match as they attempted to arrest a spectator for racist abuse towards a stadium steward.
A group of visiting supporters mostly wearing black T-shirts – like we saw in the previous meeting – clashed and forced back stewards and police at a gangway entrance in the lower tier.
Police could be seen wielding batons during the coming together with the incident occurring during the first 10 minutes of the match before calming down.

A statement by the Metropolitan Police said: “Shortly after the start of tonight’s match at Wembley, officers entered the stand to arrest a spectator for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments made towards a steward. As the officers made the arrest, minor disorder broke out involving other spectators. Order was quickly restored and there have been no further incidents at this stage.”
The English Football Association said it would investigate. “We are aware of an incident in the away section during tonight’s Fifa 2022 World Cup Qualifier at Wembley Stadium. We will be investigating and will report the incident to FIFA.”
It follows incidents of racist abuse by Hungary fans towards England players during the reverse fixture in Budapest in September. Hungary were ordered to play two home Fifa competition matches behind closed doors, one suspended for two years, after Raheem Sterling and Jude Bellingham were targeted with monkey chants during the match, which England won 4-0.
The scenes are another blow to the FA only three months after a disastrous Euro 2020 final, where ticketless fans stormed the stadium amid chaos and violence, raising doubts over England’s case to host the 2030 World Cup.
talkSPORT’s Hugh Woozencroft said the police in the stands housing the away supporters were ‘overwhelmed in one of the stairwells’ with some of the fans ‘throwing punches’.
The violence calmed down shortly afterwards, however, a flare was set off in the Hungary end after Roland Sallai gave them a shock lead with a penalty on 24 minutes.
England hit back on the pitch as John Stones levelled the scores on 36 minutes.

As new footage released shows Hungary fans fight with police during England game, Twitter users gave their reaction…
@ShoreRobert: Have to play behind closed doors at home but allowed to travel away. How does that work?
@Nickjosh81: Met Police not as tough as when it’s women laying flowers on Clapham Common.
@JohnPearce984: Wasn’t it Hungary where the team encountered racist abuse? What will FIFA do – if anything?
@RobbieChambersx: That was some embarrassing policing
@chrisNRFC: Questions have to be asked as to Police tactics in this incident – handful of Police to deal with potentially 800 fans. If you are going to go “in” – then go IN !!
@Dannybarker1981: Give them another one match behind closed doors! That will do the trick.
@AngusN_: Should give them some snickers. You’re not you when you’re hungry.
@BunnyJmz: Why let them in the ground in the first place after what happened when we played away!!!!!!!
@kylewellsey: This is fucking not on. Why the fuck are we even letting them touch down on English soil?
@kxnny280278: Our coppers getting whalloped down the concourse hahaha, our lot do that anywhere across Europe and they’re coming home with a 10 year banning order, police record and about 25 stitches. Soft as shit over here
@OllyHoppa: Got batons yet still getting tanked in, the feds are a mess
@LeeWalk92: Police are utter shithouses here. Would have been a different story if that was England fans.
@callumsamoright: I thought it’s only the English who cause trouble at football?
@alexbuckleymuch: Police have shat the bed and UEFA really need to sort this shit out. This is like the 4th time in 5 months Hungary fans have been knobs
@YorkshireMan91: Shameful behaviour but I can’t be doing with the fact our media and fans seem to forget what happened a few weeks ago for the Euro 2020 Final! Let’s not act the High and Mighty here, especially when there was such a care free attitude back in July.
@kooren_didier: How are these people even allowed to be at Wembley? This was so predictable
@TBOL88: Imagine allowing them to attend anyways, but then imagine getting battered by away fans in your own ground. Police force are a joke man, would NEVER happen away from home, the law gets laid and you don’t fuck with them
@adxm1878: Surely there’s food available at the ground?
@xberole_: must of not had dinner
@bradley_bissett: Have they not opened the canteen???
@ChrisJBWhite: Disgraceful expression of hooliganism by #Hungary. Hope police are able to regain control of the stands. #England fans unfortunately behave similarly when abroad.
@Stimson99: Embarrassing, but no doubt the worst they’ll get is told to play one more match behind closed doors, because that clearly works. Kick them out of the tournament. Lack of action from the governing bodies is pathetic. And yes, England deserved a punishment for the Euros antics.
