Messi misses chance to win it for Argentina against defiant Iceland

Minnows Iceland have claimed their first point at their first ever World Cup after holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw this afternoon.

Lionel Messi had the chance to win it for Argentina but had his penalty brilliantly saved by Iceland keeper Hannes Halldorsson.

Sergio Aguero scored his first goal at a World Cup to put the South Americans 1-0 after 19 minutes.

Marcos Rojo had the ball at left-back, lashed in a cross/shot along the deck, Aguero killed it brilliantly with one touch, wriggled away from a defender and then battered a left-footed shot right into the roof of the net.

Just 5 minutes later, Iceland got an equaliser back, just like they did against England.

Poor defending and goalkeeping from Argentina again. Hordur Magnusson’s shot turned into a cross, ends up at the feet of Alfred Finnbogason who levels it.

64 minutes on the clock and Argentina were given a penalty.

Messi hit it and keeper Halldorsson dived to his right to push it away.

What a result that is for Iceland.
