Marvellous Mexico shock holders Germany with cracking counter-attack goal

It may only be the first game but Mexico have given themselves a huge chance of qualifying to the knockout stages of the World Cup after beating holders Germany 1-0 this afternoon.

Hirving Lozano’s only goal of the game ended Germany’s record of winning their first game at every World Cup since 1990.

Mexico were dangerous throughout the whole of the game with Germany looking unlikely to getting a goal.

Lozano showed exactly why he is being linked with moves to major European in the 35th minute.

He broke out after stopping a German attack, Mexico cut through the German team with a one-two, before Lozano was set free.

Lozano beautifully cut inside and smashed the ball past a hapless Manuel Neuer.
