Marske report incident to police with match against South Shields forced to be postponed

Marske report an incident to the police with Tuesday’s Northern Premier League match against South Shields forced to be postponed.

The game was called off due to floodlight issues at Mount Pleasant around 7:35pm with the decision made after it became apparent that some of the lights would not function.

Several of the floodlights at the ground were unoperational after an act of vandalism. There had been a number of attempts to try and get them working again.

Details of the rearranged date and how any supporters who entered the ground before the game was postponed can claim a refund will be released in due course.

In a statement posted on social media, the Seasiders said: “Marske United would like to apologise to both sets of players, officials, supporters and match officials for the postponement of tonight’s game due to issues with the floodlights.

“At around 6pm it became apparent that there was a problem with the floodlights, and after further inspection it became clear that this was the result of deliberate and malicious damage.

“We worked hard to resolve the problem and managed to get most of the lights back working, but not to the required standard for the game to go ahead.

“The incident has been reported to the police.”

On the 16th of September, a GoFundMe page was launched so that Marske United could see some ground improvements following their impressive rise up the leagues in recent years.

It reads: Mount Pleasant has seen some significant changes to the ground over the past 4 seasons. This has in the main been carried out by the hard work of the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to maintain the standard expected of the Northern Premier League & the FA.

“With the promotion last season to Step 3, further enhancements are needed to ensure it continues to meet the ground grading requirements of a semi-professional club playing at Step 3 in the non-league pyramid structure.

“The Club are an integral part of the community providing a base for football for all ages from 7 years old to a Walking Football team along with a new Reserve Team and of course the Marske United First team. School competitions also take place at the stadium as well as children’s football coaching.

“The club have submitted an application for funding to get a further toilet block with accessible facilities installed, but we also need to raise further funds to provide:

• A further 39 additional seating
• Extra turnstile(s)
• Improved floodlights
• New covered stand for 100 spectators

“These improvements need to be completed by 31 Mar 2023. We are sure the supporters have enjoyed the journey so far and hope to see this continue to develop for the East Cleveland area.

“We would be very grateful for donations from any supporters past or present, ex-players who might remember their time at the club with fondness or anybody else from the extended football family locally or otherwise.

“All donations and fund raising will be very welcome! You can donate by clicking HERE
