Manager sends free tickets and a letter to terminally ill fan

Walsall manager and supporter Dean Keates has pleased a terminally ill football fan by giving him free family tickets to an upcoming match.

Lifelong Saddlers fan Dave Williams, who was diagnosed with terminal sarcoma in June, received the tickets after his daughter got in touch with the club, hoping the players would sign a get well soon card.

Walsall got back into touch with her, giving a card which had the tickets along with a letter.

The letter read:

Dear Dave,

I heard that you have been going through a bit of a rough time at the moment with your chemotherapy and we wanted to see if we could take your mind off it.

Your daughter Chloe tells us that you are a massive Saddlers fans and we want to invite you and three guests to our home game against Wycombe Wanderers on October 27th.

I had cancer affect me during my second spell with Walsall, so I know how tough it can be and I know what you and your family are going through at the moment.

The staff and I at the club would be delighted to see you at the game in a hope that it brings plenty of good memories back for you.

Your sincerely, Dean.

Daughter Chloe wrote on social media: @WFCOfficial a huge thank you to Walsall FC for making my dad the happiest I’ve seen him in a long time. Never expected this much care from a football team, it means the world to us as a family, but more so to my dad who has supported Walsall for getting on for 40 years!

After seeing what the club had done, social media users took to praise Walsall for what they did – see those tweets on the next page.
