Antonio Valencia has apologised for ‘liking’ an Instagram post that called for Jose Mourinho to be given the sack.
It comes after Manchester United played out a dull encounter with La Liga side Valencia in the Champions League last night which ended goalless.
The captain claimed that by agreeing with the fan account was a mistake.
The Instagram post said: “I’m not even surprised about the outcome of the game. I always look forward our games but recently Mourinho has made watching us a punishment. Something needs to change. It’s time for Mourinho to go.”
But this morning he took to Twitter that it was an accident, he said: “Yesterday, I liked a post on Instagram without reading the text that accompanied the picture. These are not my views and I apologise for this. I am fully supportive of my manager and my teammates. We are giving our everything to improve our results.”
United legend Paul Scholes stated that Mourinho an “embarrassment” after last night’s draw and that he was lucky to still have a job.
After Valencia’s apology, Manchester United fans on Twitter did not appear to accept what he had to say – check out those tweets on the next page.
