Macclesfield Town sack manager after winless start to season

Macclesfield Town have sacked manager Mark Yates following their winless start to the season.

The newly promoted side appointed Yates four months ago in June after highly respected John Askey left to join Shrewsbury Town following the Silkmen’s promotion by winning the National League title.

Macclesfield are five points adrift of safety in League Two having not won in their opening 12 games.

Macclesfield Town said in a club statement: “Macclesfield Town are saddened to announce that First Team Manager Mark Yates is to leave the club.

“Mark was brought into the club during the summer and despite a plethora of injuries to deal with, as well as an enormous amount of bad luck on occasions, fought gallantly in a bid to lift our league position to where we all want it to be.

“We would like to thank Mark for his services to the club and wish him the very best of luck in his future career.

Following the news made by the club, football fans took to express their delight with some replying with some cheeky name drops on who could be the club’s next manager – check out those tweets on the next page.
