Leeds fans hit back after outrage over “disgraceful” ticket prices for Southampton game

Leeds United fans have taken to hit back after outrage on social media over “disgraceful” ticket prices for the Southampton game.

Southampton fans are expressing anger over the decision to charge £47 for an adult ticket for their final Championship game of the season at Elland Road.

This price has been deemed “disgraceful” and “vile” by many, especially since Southampton charged Leeds fans £30 for their match at St Mary’s.

The controversy has sparked quite the conversation on social media, with some fans calling for a boycott and others expressing disappointment and anger towards Leeds United’s pricing strategy.

Despite the backlash however, some argue that Leeds’ pricing strategy aims to avoid their own fans being overcharged at away games.

Twitter users gave their reacted while Leeds fans hit back after outrage over “disgraceful” ticket prices for the Southampton game…

@Leedsbible: You were offered reciprocal pricing as were all teams. Your board fancied that cash. Not our problem. Some proper clubs took the deal.

@chunkyboyjames: How are people STILL not understanding the concept of reciprocal pricing? Leeds offered Saints £25 tickets if YOU did the same. YOUR CHAIRMAN said NO, so now you are required, BY EFL RULES, to pay the same price as home fans do in the same stand. Blame YOUR CHAIRMAN.

@Darrenforeman2: Had numerous Leeds supporters trying to justify a £47 ticket (for a crap view ) shall I add with the quote your club had a chance to do a reciprocal £20 home and away . Why couldn’t it be £30 ? Totally ignoring the fact that they are happy to pay that for a ticket every week 🤷‍♂️

@BackoftheChapel: We knew this would be the case from the start of the season. Not sure why we didn’t agree reciprocal pricing. Allocations a joke.

@JackWelsh97: Could have agreed reciprocal pricing so both sets of away fans would’ve got it cheaper overall

@Jaxson0411: Blame your owners they refused the offer of the lower price, welcome to Our world we have been rinsed for yrs but I suppose when ya a massive club and everyone else’s cup final ya get used to it

@FVCK_LEW: Agree to reciprocal pricing or risk this. Your owners didn’t fancy losing £10 per head from the biggest away following in the league, so this is what you were left with (which your owners would’ve also known about but did fuck all to help you). Have a look closer to home pal.

@Robbie_T7: Almost as if you refused reciprocal pricing, and also voted against the cap for all teams that Leeds proposed in pre season. Leeds have to charge what they charge their own fans in that stand unless agreement has been made…. And your chairman refused when we visited to cap

@jonsmith_lufc: we wanted both sets of tickets to be £26, you declined that offer knowing we’d sell out at your place. This is what reciprocal means, we both “agree” you didn’t, so guess what, you pay full price at ours All you had to do was drop yours by £4, then ours would drop £21 🤷‍♂️

@Chris_Wriiight: Hi Alfie, allow me to help you out a bit seeing as you’re struggling with the concept of ‘reciprocal’, Leeds offered your club the chance to charge us £23 for example and we’d ‘reciprocate’, your owners refused and were made aware of what prices you’d be charged, hope that helps

@Heathbell52: In a nutshell, the Southampton decided that charging leeds fans full price (because our allocation always sells out and its a good pay day) was better than getting a cheaper deal for their own fans in the return leg. Blame your board for putting ££’s over your fans.

@bLeedsUtd: YOU DIDN’T AGREE TO RECIPROCAL PRICING. Take it up with your own club.

@Echo_LUFC: It’s the set price at the start of the season as it’s in the same stand as the home fans. All you guys had to do was reduce yours by £5-10 and we’d reduce ours by £20-25 and then both sets of away fans would be paying very little, which is good for both. Embarrassing journalism

@paullaceyLUFC: Oh Alfie it’s simple agree to reciprocal pricing and that wouldn’t be the case and btw it’s what home fans have to pay on that and other rands anyway … don’t pay and stay away it’s fine by us we could sell out our own ground

@maverickrhino: Alfie mate. £47 is what Leeds fans pay in that stand. EFL rules state visiting fans should pay the same unless there is a reciprocal agreement. This level of basic research shouldn’t be beyond you.

@MHWardy: This on Southampton. Leeds will sell that stand out regardless due to the high demand for home tickets so if you don’t sell out, we’ll sell it out anyway with home fans. Demand for tickets is there to justify it; Saints should have taken reciprocal. Take your anger elsewhere

@leedsthat: This is completely misreported. Southampton failed to agree reciprocal pricing, and opted to charging our fans more. Therefore they’ve defaulted to our match day price, which some home fans will also pay. They were greedy for a few extra grand, and it’s now cost their fans even more.
