A League One footballer has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
Tyrell Robinson of Bradford City was suspended by his club over the allegations a few days ago.
Since then it has been revealed that Cheshire Police arrested him at Macclesfield Town’s Moss Rose ground on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “On the evening of Tuesday, August 14, Cheshire police officers arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of a serious sexual assault.
“The arrest, made on behalf of West Yorkshire Police, relates to an incident alleged to have taken place overnight on August 13-14 in the Bradford area.”
A club statement read: “Tyrell Robinson has been suspended with immediate effect.
“Bradford City Football Club will be making no further comment at this time.”
Robinson, looks set for an great and exciting season under manager Michael Collins, but now his career might be over just as it’s getting started.
Collins refused to say anything about Robinson’s suspension.
The 32-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds: “I can only say what the club have already said. They released a statement saying he had been suspended and at this moment they will be making no further comment, and that’s the stance that I will be taking.
“So for me it’s just about discussing the Southend game going into the weekend.
“It gives the opportunity for someone else to come into the fray. That’s the stance we have taken, so we go on as normal.
“Whatever is happening is happening, but it makes no difference to how we prepare, we are a professional outfit with professional players and we continue as before.
“I am well aware of the different faculties that come with being a head coach, this is one of them, it is what it is. The club have made a statement and off the back of that as I’ve said I won’t comment any further.
“This is all part of the job and you have to deal with it as it comes along.”
He was asked whether the news had come as a shock, Collins added: “Again, no comment on that until the lines of due diligence have been done.”
After seeing the club’s statement, many supporters were understandably worried about the loss of a player who looked like he had so much potential this season – you can see what they had to say on the next page.
