Jamie Carragher hits back after Pep Guardiola criticises Sky Sports pundits

Jamie Carragher hits back with a savage response on Twitter after Man City boss Pep Guardiola criticises Sky Sports pundits.

Pep complained about big-name pundits who have played Liverpool and Manchester United criticising his team, claiming that they were nowhere near as successful as what his players are today.

Man City currently find themselves third in the Premier League, having won nine out of 14 games so far and picked up 30 points.

They sit six points behind leaders Arsenal after the Gunners won 4-3 at Luton Town on Tuesday night, however, Man City could halve that gap should they get a victory against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola has guided his side to have the last three Premier League titles and hope to make it number four this time around.

Should they do so, it would be six titles from the last seven, having only seen Liverpool stop that, lifting the trophy for 2019/20.

But there have been questions raised over whether Man City can do it this season considering their patchy form over the last few months, and not the usual dominance we’re used to seeing.

But Guardiola is feeling frustrated with his players not getting the praise and appreciation they deserve.

Gary Neville said that City were letting their bid for a fourth successive Prem title slide following the 3-3 draw against Tottenham on Sunday.

He said: “What he won’t like, Guardiola, is [the] decision, the complacency, defensive lapses and giving up points again to Tottenham.”

Richards added: “Something’s just not right, too easy to play against on counter, individual mistakes again.”

Ahead of their game against Villa, Guardiola took aim at Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and even ex-City player Micah Richards.

He said: “I know the players, I know how they run. How we behave is extraordinary.

“I know the players, I know how they run. How we behave is extraordinary.

“I have a feeling that if we maintain that level, we’ll win the Premier League. We will win it again.

“He knows how difficult it is otherwise Gary Neville would’ve won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United.

“But he didn’t do it, you know?

“Jamie Carragher didn’t win one once. Micah Richards didn’t win four Premier Leagues in a row.

“Never, ever. It’s never happened. There is more chance of it not happening than happening.

“Just one Treble before us. It’s so difficult to do it again and again.

“We don’t have what others have, who haven’t done it for many, many years.

“Normally it happens that when you drop points, people say : ‘OK you drop points, against Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham – what a disaster.’

“It’s Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham – what do people expect? That we get 120 points and be 20 points in front?

“Of course our behaviour in some moments, after winning the Treble and three leagues in a row, you need sometimes to defend a cross more aggressively, how we attack a ball.

“They are the little details. It happens. They come because we won a lot.”

These comments caught Carra’s attention, suggesting Man City have only got the huge financial backing to thank for their success, while also bringing up the fact they have allegedly breached a host of Financial Fair Play regulations.

“I think I’d have probably won one (a title) if Liverpool were owned by a nation state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!” he wrote on Twitter.

“I was actually praising Pep’s team after the game on Sunday (shrugging emoji, laughing emoji).”
