Incredible viral video resurfaces showing Kenny Dalglish’s open goal miss vs Man Utd in 1980

Incredible viral video resurfaces showing Kenny Dalglish’s open goal miss vs Man Utd from way back in 1980, and it’s a must watch.

King Kenny shanks one wide from about 30 centimeters out after Alan Hansen had busted Manchester United’s insanely stupid offside trap wide around the half way line open at Old Trafford over 40 years ago.

But fans have recently discovered a clip of it, at 1-1 Liverpool had a huge chance to equalise in the most bizarre of circumstances, only to mess it up and Man Utd went on to win 2-1.

Would love to see what Roy Keane would make of watching this calamity from both sides, be it United lacking to hold any sort of shape and/or Hansen going one-on-one with the United goalkeeper only to pass it to Dalglish who smashed it wide.

Bob Paisley’s Liverpool retained the league trophy after fighting off a determined challenge by Dave Sexton’s Manchester United. Nottingham Forest failed to make a serious title challenge but made up for this by retaining the European Cup.

Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers were relegated after brief and uneventful spells in the First Division, but Derby County’s relegation came just five years after they had been league champions.

Kevin Keegan, who at the time had been current European Footballer of the Year, ended his three-year spell with Hamburg in Germany and returned to England in a £400,000 move to Southampton.

Man City where Malcolm Allison had dismantled the squad selling the likes of Asa Hartford and Peter Barnes and replaced them with unknowns and the uncapped Steve Daley for £1.5 million. City had a mediocre season including an FA Cup defeat by Fourth Division Halifax Town.

Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest made up for disappointment in the league by retaining the European Cup and becoming the first team to have won more European Cups than league titles.

Arsenal faced Valencia of Spain in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final shortly after their FA Cup final loss. It finished 0-0 after extra time, and Arsenal lost the penalty shoot-out after misses from Liam Brady and Graham Rix.

Second Division West Ham United, managed by John Lyall, were winners of the FA Cup, beating Arsenal 1–0 with a Trevor Brooking goal. They are the last team to win the FA Cup from outside the top division.

Wolves overcame the challenge of European champions Nottingham Forest to lift their second League Cup, winning 1–0 with the only goal coming from Andy Gray following a mix-up between goalkeeper Peter Shilton and defender David Needham.

Twitter users reacted to the incredible viral video which resurfaces this week, showing Kenny Dalglish’s open goal miss vs Man Utd in 1980…

@dondeal28: That not Dalglish missing that?

@Cheggles29: Getting the tram lines on the pitch to start planting the crops 🤣🤣

@phopey1: Talk about a high line 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@UtdPositive: Ah, the old 9, 1 formation with an all out midfield press. Classic.

@Connor_mullen: Duno what’s worse the miss or the whole team coming up to the half way line

@matty_carson: And people say footballers were better back then

@BabyHue28569848: I was at that game, still can’t believe Kenny missed. 😃

@stabestweet: Unbelievable. Look at the state of that pitch.

@stephenngalim: What did I just watch 😭

@jimmysmith89: The state of the pitch… the miss… the press from the whole squad 😂😂

@MCFCjxck: People will see shit like this and still insist that the players in the 60’s 70’s 80’s etc are better than the ones of today

@CityBIue: You can actually never tell me that a title winning team from 2023 lose to a title winning team from at least 2 decades ago. If there’s ever proof that footballers are just naturally getting better than previous generations, just look at old videos of how it used to be.

@PGialo: Everyone who played in this era has an asterisk on their achievements 🤣

@lcfckini: If Vardy played in this era he’d be getting GOAT shouts ffs 💀

@TheUnitedWay26: That’s like watching kids football 🤣 why did the whole team press like that? Madness

@TopBoyNaks: The goalkeeping is killing me more than the offside trap and the miss and I couldn’t even tell you why

@Laggin_Boat: This reminds me of playing football at primary school. Absolutely everybody on the pitch chasing after the ball

@tommoir1: When people talk about Pele, romario, beckenbauer and shit…like this was the game of football back then I don’t want to hear anything where they compare to modern football 😂

@EthanJones30_: From the offside trap to the finish… wtf have I just witnessed 🙂

@Tonyjon43690955: I always say to people that talk shit about the women’s games to watch stuff in the 70s. Absolutely toilet

@bradhendricks: Fair to say he beat the offside trap 😅. Hope he had a word to his mate about that finish though 😁.

@joshmontage656: Football was awful back then, absolutely dreadful

@Kissimond: These are the guys who now get onto todays players about lack of quality etc 😂😂😂😂😂

@harveyhodgson_: Grrr football isn’t what it used to be 😤

@SonnyGilbert12: What have I just watched 😂😂😂

@steelyhoops: My father in law always argues about football and players being better back in the day 🤣🤣🤣 I remember a lot of shit games In the 80s

@daver1819: Not sure what’s worse the missed goal or the offsides trap 😂

@Tom92855662: Shows how good Hansen was

@James_Truscott: “Football back in my day was better than it is now”. 🥱

@MattyJones_5: The beautiful game ey

@MrTPearce: Football isn’t like it used to be they say…thank god!

@TomGale91: Fuck me now that’s a high press 🤣
