Heung Min-Son finds out on live TV he can’t play in Champions League semi-final first leg

Following Tottenham Hotspur’s win on away goals over Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Heung Min-Son found out on live TV that he can’t play in the semi-final first leg.

Son netted a three-minute brace before Fernando Llorente found the net from a corner and was confirmed by VAR with 17 minutes left on the clock.

Raheem Sterling got a first-half double, but missed out on a last-gasp winner as Sergio Aguero was said to be offside in the lead-up.

Son picked up his third yellow card of the tournament for pulling on Kevin De Bruyne’s shirt, meaning he will miss Tottenham’s home leg semi-final clash against Ajax.

However he was unaware of the suspension until a Sky Sport reporter in Germany reminding him after the game.

Son replied: “I didn’t know!”

He joked that Tottenham would probably be better without him.

He said to the Tottenham website: “We arrive at the semi-final but we don’t want to talk about already being in the final because Ajax are a very good team and we have to be ready.”

“Of course I was very sad and still sad [about the suspension] but I’m a very positive guy and I think the players can probably do it better without me. ‘I think the players are ready and should enjoy it like always and we will have a great result.’

After the game, proud Pochettino commented: “It was unbelievable – the way it finished. I am so happy, so proud. My players are heroes to be here. I am so happy for them, so happy for the fans.

“In a moment many things happened in your head, the disappointment was massive but they changed the decision. That is why we love football.

“Today we showed great character and great personality it was an unbelievable game.”
