Friday nights 8pm televised Premier League fixture between Aston Villa and Newcastle has become the first football match to be postponed due to a covid-19 outbreak.
An outbreak at Newcastle United’s Darsley Park training ground, resulted in their appeal to have Friday’s visit to Aston Villa postponed a later date, accepted by the Premier League. The Premier League say each request will be judged on a case-by-case basis with no right to appeal if the League insist the fixture must be completed.
Aston Villa can confirm that the Club fully supports the Premier League’s decision to postpone our fixture with Newcastle United on Friday.
Everybody at Aston Villa wishes a speedy recovery to all those @NUFC affected by the virus.

Newcastle United’s players have been told to stay away from the Darsley Park and have not trained since last week. Both players and staff have been tested with those who tested positive or in the inner circle of those who have tested positive told to self isolate.
It is understood that both players and staff self-isolating have been warned not to discuss the matter between themselves. Newcastle are not commenting on the situation but have confirmed that the training ground remains closed.
Newcastle currently are currently 13th in the Premier League Table, following an emphatic away win at Crystal Palace last Friday.
Check out the fan reaction to the postponement, what do you think? Should Newcastle have fielded their U23's? Did the Premier League get it right? Let us know in the comments below.
That’s rubbish. So we now have to squeeze in two games in hand in a congested season. What is the penalty to newcastle?

I’m not disputing seriousness of the situation newcastle are in. In no way meant to trivialise it. I agree it should be postponed. My question was more rhetorical as PL said it would require nearly the whole senior squad to be positive for a postponement. Look at the NFL fines

Could be a players partner catches it whilst in a supermarket then gives it to the player in their own home. He then goes training and passes it on. Last thing we want is it being passed on to our players who then miss games . Postponing is the correct decision imo #avfc #nufc
