Several midweek EFL fixtures postponed due to a rise in Covid cases at team camp as well as the horrid storm that has arrived.
The Championship fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch with Storm Christoph setting in.
Following a pitch inspection at Ewood Park on Tuesday morning, and with further wet weather forecast, a decision was made by local referee Michael Salisbury to postpone the game.
Blackburn said in a statement: “Details for the rearranged fixture – as well as the planned ‘Rovers Remember’ tribute – will be announced in due course.
“iFollow Rovers match passes that were purchased for tonight’s game will be valid for the rescheduled fixture, along with any codes supporters have received.
“Refund requests can be made to firstname.lastname@example.org
“Rovers will be back in action this Sunday when Tony Mowbray’s side take on Middlesbrough at the Riverside, live on Sky Sports, kick-off 3pm.”
Crawley Town have confirmed that their League Two fixture against Stevenage, due to take place on Tuesday, has been suspended.
The club have informed the EFL that we are unable to fulfil the fixture due to an outbreak of Covid-19, with players and first-team staff required to self-isolate in line with EFL and Government guidance.
The circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL regulations.
Revised dates for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course.
The club add that they are continuing to work with the EFL, FA and Public Health England to ensure the safety of all players and staff, with a further announcement regarding future fixtures, including the Reds FA Cup tie against AFC Bournemouth, to come in due course.
A Legaue One fixture between Lincoln City and Gillingham has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at LNER Stadium, it’s also confirmed.
Lincoln state: “The date of the rearranged fixture will be communicated in due course.
“Information for those supporters who purchased a WeAreImps iFollow match pass will also be provided in due course.”
Another game called off came in League One, Blackpool were set to take on Northampton Town, however a waterlogged pitch at Bloomfield Road prevented the game from going ahead.
The match was called off at 5:30pm following an inspection conducted by referee James Oldham, and there it didn’t look as though the rain was going to stop either according to the forecast.
“From just rolling the ball in the key action areas, it isn’t bouncing or travelling very well, particularly in both goalmouths,” he said.
