Hashtag United mocked as they lose first ever game in the non league pyramid

Much-fancied Hashtag United played their first ever league match since being added to the non league pyramid.

They took on Little Oakley and lead for majority of the game in the Eastern Counties League Division One South before going on to lose, which lead to social media users mocking the YouTube club.

Hashtag started positively, going into the break 2-1 up…

The second half didn’t go in the way Hashtag United wanted it to however as they Little Oakley, who nearly made it 2-2 before half time, came out on top in the second part of the game and managed to turn it completely around from 2-1 down to 3-2 up.

Founded in 2016, Hashtag United gained notability due to recording their matches, making videos around them, and posting them on YouTube.

A few months ago it was confirmed they are the first YouTube team of their kind to become a registered semi-professional team.

In 2018, the club joined the football league system, initially being placed in Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League, before being moved to Division One South of the Eastern Counties League after they had appealed that it was more suited to their Essex roots.

As of yet, it has not been revealed who the chairman of Hashtag United is as he doesn’t want to be known publicly but is said to be a big investor who has helped the club become a reality.

As Hashtag United tweeted the scores during the game, plenty of users on social media took to mock the club’s loss.

Check out some of that reaction on the next page.
