Hartlepool fans dressed as knights crusade their way to Fortress Holker Street for National League battle

Recently, Hartlepool United revealed what their supporters would be dressing up in on the final away day of the season.

It was announced that they would be turning up to their last away game of the season to Barrow dressed as knights and boy didn’t they do a good job.

1,140 crusaded their way from the North East to cumbria, making up the total attendance of 3,007 at Fortress Holker Street.

Previous years, they’ve dressed up as Clowns, Smurfs, Penguins, Oompa Loompas and Stormtroopers among many others.

John Pearson, the Hartlepool fan who organised the fancy dress theme, said prior to the day out: “To take over 1,000 fans to Barrow for an end of season game with nothing really at stake is unbelievable.

“I know a few of the last away day regulars are missing due to holidays and things but hopefully the Fancy Dress Brigade won’t be depleted too much.

“With it being St George’s Day the following day, it made sense for this year’s theme to tie in with that and no doubt there will be a focus on St George himself.

“Anyone who went to Tranmere last season could not have failed to enjoy the day, and the effort some fans went to with their face paint and costumes was brilliant.

“Hopefully this year’s game can be as colourful and as enjoyable for everyone as all the previous occasions and helps to send a positive message to the Club about the force they have behind them.

“Let’s hope this can be the start of Higgy’s Crusade!”

Unfortunately the game itself saw Hartlepool defeated as a Josh Kay overhead kick on the 27th minute was enough to seal the points for Barrow.
