Back on the road again, heading towards the seaside for the second time in a week, but this time it’s Kent and not Sussex.
It’s a windy, but clear evening, perfect for some football under the floodlights, and things only get better for the ‘Two Men in Search of the Beautiful Game’ when they get their first glimpse of the stunning Belmont, with its red and white seat filled main stand, the whole place overflowing with character.
Many of you will agree, that the quality of a football clubs clubhouse, can make or break a visit to a new ground. The one at the Whitstable Town did not disappoint, from the fading pictures on the wall, the ageing floral carpet and the obligatory fruit machine, it was close to perfect. Add into the equation the big TV and getting to watch Messi curl a free kick in against PSV in the Champions League, it was going to be hard to drag the duo away.
However the draw of Pat’s Pantry and her offering of a cheese burger and chips was too much for Tom to bare. Sitting pitch side, a flock of birds dancing in the sky, with sun going down, turning the sky all sorts of pinks and blues, its was ideal!
They were treated to no goals, but who needs goals when you can enjoy the “Unit” of a number 9 playing for Haywards Heath, like a six foot plus bartering ram or the non stop running commentary of the Whitstable Town manger, your missus must love Tuesdays, when you’re not home”, he shouted at the referee after being told to keep his opinions to himself.
