Back on the road again, and they’re staying a lot closer to home, for their first game in Essex of the season, the sea side no where to be seen.
It was a night of firsts in fact, the duo arriving separately, because of some shocking rush hour traffic that held Daniel up picking Tom up. Daniel’s silver tin can of a car struggled with the violent black and yellow striped speed bumps in the Park Side car park, the venue for tonight’s game, between two teams the Two Men in Search of the Beautiful Game have a long history with. Tom’s car, his brand spanking new behemoth of a car, glided over them like they weren’t even there, pulling up along side Daniel, and giving him his best James Bond grin.
Park Side is only Grays Athletics temporary home, they are lodgers if you like. Homeless now since 2010, they last saw them at their previous temporary home, which they also shared with Aveley FC, the quite excellent Mill Field. Now that was what you call a football ground, straight out of the old school. The ancient main stand, the sweeping terracing, the very high chance of turning your angle on some rubble. Their new home is nice enough, its clean and in good nick, but its just a bit sterile.
Not much of a game to talk about, but excitable child fans, the late appearance of a drum and a couple of goals made for a perfectly pleasant evening.
