National League side Gateshead have mocked Tottenham’s Harry Kane after the announcement to the Premier League awarding a goal to the England forward.
The Premier League goals accreditation panel had initially given it to Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen during Spurs’ win over Stoke City at the weekend.
Check out the tweet from the non league side going viral…
Since media spoke to Kane after the game on Saturday, the jokes have kept on coming with Gateshead being the latest to have some fun with it.
Some of the other reaction:
Alan Shearer, Premier League record scorer with 260 goals: “I wonder if they will give me the other nine I also scored but were not given! #269 #appeal.”
Former England striker Gary Lineker: “I can think of half a dozen for the national side I might claim. I was only 10 yards away from Platt’s volley against Belgium if that’s near enough? Could yet be England’s leading scorer.”
Liverpool fans are mocking Kane for deciding to appeal the decision. Obviously they want Salah to claim the Golden Boot award.
But there’s a specific incident earlier in the season that they are referring to as evidence of the difference in attitude between their own players and the rest of the players in the league.
Back in November, Roberto Firmino sacrificed the chance to take Sadio Mane’s goal from him in a 3-0 win over Stoke.
His unselfish act meant that the Brazilian attacker missed out on a £45,000 bonus.
Shortly after the news was announced Mo Salah tweeted:
Wooooooow really ?
