Fulham put pen to paper with SBOTOP on £10m sponsorship deal

Fulham looks set to cash in after putting pen to paper on a £10million sponsorship deal with online gambling platform SBOTOP, according to reports.

Ahead of the new 2023/2024 Premier League which will kick off on August 11, Fulham will have SBOTOP as their chief shirt sponsor which will see the name emblazoned on the first team’s kit as well as training kit.

It is expected that SBOTOP will also have a visible in-stadium presence at Fulham’s home ground Craven Cottage, so fans will be aware of this from the moment they walk through the turnstiles.

The deal is likely to surpass the amount that Burnley inked (£8m) to have W88 as their main sponsor, while Fulham’s agreement is believed to be a record-breaking deal for the club for a sponsorship.

Revealing his excitement over the deal, Fulham’s commercial director, Jon Don-Carolis, said: “We are pleased to welcome SBOTOP as our front-of-shirt partner as we continue our exciting journey in the Premier League.

“The coveted front-of-shirt sponsorship plays an integral part in keeping the club competitive through significant revenue, and we look forward to celebrating continued success in 2023/24.”

SBOTOP has bucked a trend for sleeve sponsorship deals, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by Bill Mummery, who is the SBOTOP CEO.

Explaining why SBOTOP chose to have a front-of-shirt deal, he told SBC: “Simply put – because it works. That said, it is one component of a marketing mix.

“Working together I have no doubt that we will transition successfully post-2026. It’s worth noting that we have never used our brand on any Junior Team playing kit or Replica kit and we have always worked with clubs to act responsibly and in a sustainable manner.”

What is evident, is that betting companies have realised the impact that football has. Ultimately, they have tried to expand their footprint over the years to ensure more of a presence, as well as direct more players to their sites. This is certainly the case with LeoVegas, who recently had sponsorship deals with Manchester City and Inter Milan, and by becoming City’s official betting partner, it has helped to enhance LeoVegas’ brand value.

As far as SBOTOP is concerned, this deal will be hugely significant as the Premier League generates a lot of revenue through broadcasting, and if it gets people talking, then it can only be viewed as a good thing.

While gambling and football have had a somewhat fractious relationship at times, it will be intriguing to see how SBOTOP is received, and they can have a telling influence.
