Former Leicester, Leeds, Coventry and Liverpool player Gary McAllister attacked outside pub

It has been reported that former Leicester, Leeds, Coventry and Liverpool footballer Gary McAllister was attacked outside pub over the weekend.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Leeds, he was hospitalised and needed at least 10 stitches.

McAllister, who is the assistant manager of Rangers, attended a Liverpool Legends match against AC Milan greats before returning to the West Yorkshire city, where he was assaulted.

The Daily Mail report that he “fell to the floor after being punched in the face and that his wife fought to pull the attacker off him, suffering a wrist injury in the process.”

A source told The Sun: “Gary was in hospital from about 3am to 12 noon. His face is a mess. He must have at least 10-12 stitches in his top lip.

“It was totally unprovoked by just one bloke. He came from nowhere and just hit him – simply because Gary is a a former footballer.

“It’s crazy. We’re seeing supporters run onto pitches and attacking players, now we’ve got legends like Gary being set upon in a city centre.

“It beggars belief. Gary’s pretty shaken up by it all. He and Hayley have always tried to keep out of the limelight.”

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: “We are investigating an assault that occurred in Call Lane in Leeds city centre at about 4am yesterday.
