Former England goalkeeper set for Chelsea medical

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green is due to have a medical at Chelsea on Wednesday ahead of signing a year-long deal.

It is believed that new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri will look to sign the 38-year-old as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper for the season.

He spent last season as the back-up keeper at Huddersfield Town, and last played regular competitive football for Leeds United during the 2016/17 campaign.

Chelsea are keen to fill their homegrown player quota after allowing Jamal Blackman to join Leeds on loan for the season, and Rob Green would fit the bill.

Kasper Schmeichel has also been linked with Chelsea in recent weeks along with Alisson, Petr Cech and Jack Butland.

Thibaut Courtois is looking increasingly likely to depart Stamford Bridge this summer with some reports saying terms have been agreed.
