Football Clubs That Change Shirts After Betting Ban

From 2023 English Premier League clubs will have to do one thing. Sponsors that are basically betting or gambling companies are not allowed to be sponsors anymore. What this means is that the clubs are going to have to change their shirts. 

Obviously, new rules are going to change the way how the clubs are funded. Usually, UK bettors who use NGB sites admire the fact that their favourite brand is officially promoted, but that will change. Below we have a couple of clubs that are going to do this and they are probably going to do this soon.

Watford

Watford has been one of those clubs that had a sports betting sponsor for a long period of time. Their previous sponsor was Sportsbet.io. But their current sponsor is Stake.com. If you watch football you know that they have a big logo of the brand located in Curacao on the shirts. 

Well, the deal is massive and it is the biggest one this club ever had. The value of the deal was above £6 million. The sum you can see here was paid by their formed sponsors we have mentioned as well. Sadly, this is going to change so the club is going to change the shirts and must find a new sponsor.

Brentford

Hollywoodbets sponsors the club in question. There are not a lot of details about the contract the deals and the overall value. We do know that the company sponsors this club only in the United Kingdom and this is their first cooperation of this kind. Y

ou can see a big logo on the shirts of the footballers that is one of a kind. All we can add is that this contract didn’t last long and it will have to be replaced any time soon. This may have a huge, negative effect on the club and its future performance. 

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace started cooperation with W88 back in 2020. However, this club is also supporting a self-exclusion scheme and this contradicts the deal. As you can assume the details of the deal are known. 

We do know that this is the highest paid contract of this kind in the history of the club. The last deal was with ManbextX which was £6.5 million per year. This one is more profitable hence we are probably looking at a value of £7-8 per year. 

Southampton

Sportsbet.io was the sponsor here. The cooperation started back in 2020 and it was one of the biggest in the history of the club. The value of the deal was £7.5 million. But, this is not all. The club got Bitcoin boosts at the end of the season which will correspond to their success. 

In other words, if the club performed well or excellent, these bonuses would be much higher and the club would have even more money to use for improvement, advancement, and more. Sadly this ban means one thing. They will have to change the shirts any time soon. 

West Ham

West Ham has been cooperating with one of the leaders in the betting industry. The name of the company is Betway and you probably know more about the company than we do. They started the contract in 2019 and it was massive. 

It is £60 million in total value. This means that the club has been receiving £10 million per year. The design of the shirts is basically identical with the same position of the sponsor’s logo as other teams have. But, the deal will have to end before its time and we can only hope to see the logo of another brand here. 

Newcastle United

Newcastle United is another team that has a betting or gambling sponsor. Fun88 is this sponsor and as you can imagine the deal is not a new one. It started in 2017 and it is one of the higher deals in the league. The overall value is believed to be around £6.5 million per year but there are tumours that the contract is much bigger in the total value. 

As you can assume, the club is going to have to change its sponsor as soon as possible and we believe that the next one will probably be less lucrative. After all, betting companies are known to pay the most money to get the deal they want because this is the best opportunity to interest new fans to bet and help the company generate more income.  

Leeds United

Leeds United is sponsored by SBOTOP and the deal started the same year when they returned to the league. The deal is the most profitable one in the history of the club and the value is around £6.5 million per year. 

In addition, the contract was to be valid for the next 3 years so the club would definitely get a lot of profit to invest in the players. The stadium and a lot more. Football is an expensive sport hence massive deals are mandatory.

In general, 15 football clubs in the English Premier League will have to change their shirts by 2023. Most of those football clubs are extremely popular among bettors who use the exclusion program. However, this rule is mandatory due to the law that prohibits companies like betting brands and more to promote themselves using the teams in the league. We can only expect that the clubs will have good luck finding other sponsors to work with.
