We look at the favourites to become new Norwich City manager with David Wagner sacked after their playoff defeat at Leeds United.
The German manager is to depart after witnessing his side lose 4-0 in the Championship semi final second leg at Elland Road on Thursday night.
He arrived in January 2023 but failed to win over the fanbase due to his perceived negative style of play. Wagner leaves having spent 75 games in charge. 31 wins, 17 draws and 27 defeats. A win percentage of 41%.
Norwich City have parted company with head coach David Wagner.
We would like to place on record our thanks to David for his hard work and contribution during his time at Norwich City.

Assistant head coach Christoph Bühler will also leave the club.
Sporting director Ben Knapper said: “David has operated with class and dignity throughout his period as Norwich City head coach, but we now feel that the time is right for us to move in a different direction.
“We remain committed to progressing our football club, in both the short and long-term, working through a diligent and thorough strategy.
“The appointment of a new head coach is an important one. We will now work and continue our due diligence with the view of making an appointment in the near future.”
All at Norwich City would like to place on record our thanks to both David and Christoph for their hard work and contributions to the club. We wish them well in their future careers.

Even if Wagner had guided Norwich back to the Premier League, it’s thought that that new sporting director Ben Knapper, who came from Arsenal earlier in the season, would have still let him go.
Norwich ended the 2022/23 season in 13th under Wagner, then for 2023/24, they made it to the playoffs, finishing 6th place on the final day of the season.
In the semi-final first leg against Leeds, Norwich played out a 0-0 draw before suffering a heavy defeat in the second leg.
Knapper is expected to search for a more forward-thinking coach, with Arsenal’s assistant manager Carlos Cuesta being considered, having spoken to him earlier this season.
A name mentioned, former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper, has been mentioned but has already expressed his lack of interest in the position.
Meanwhile, it is expected that Norwich are preparing for significant changes, with key players Jonny Rowe and Gabriel Sara likely to attract attention this summer. Last year, Norwich rejected a £15 million offer from Wolves for Rowe.
Leeds catch Norwich cold with big win and bumper atmosphere at Elland Road to make playoff final
Speaking on his future after the Leeds game, Wagner said, per Pink Un: “I think it’s clear that there has to be some conversations, from my side as well, about the plans of next season.
“I said this beforehand, what the players have done in the second part of the season was very, very good. The difficult spell which we had was quite easy to explain and this is how it is. Everything what will happen we will see you.
“It hurts because we had the chance to go to Wembley, after the first leg where we it was totally even tonight we were not as competitive as we should have been and where we normally can be as well and this is what now at the moment counts.
“Maybe tomorrow I can look on it a little bit different and yes, the players have done great, how they recovered from this very difficult period.
“The truth is today we were second best. Leeds were better, they deserved the win, they deserved to go to Wembley. And today we were not as good as we should have been to be competitive.”
This is how fans on the favourites to become new Norwich manager revealed with David Wagner sacked after the 4-0 playoff defeat at Leeds…
@DWyattHupton: So he should be. Decisive action by Knapper and 100% the right decision. This team were going nowhere with Wagner in charge. #NCFC
@thecraftyjoiner: Even quicker than I expected 👍
@Jampa9: Fantastic decision. Get the new gaffer in early.
@IanGabelli: No hanging around, good.
@mattjohnson333: Good. I hope a bird shits on his head on the way out, then he stands in dog shit, then he gets a flat tyre, then Costa gives him his wrong drinks order, the Chinese forget to put half his order in the bag and he generally has a really really really shit day. #ncfc
@99BenBray1: Think @chris_sutton73 was spot on with his comments on sky, Wagner seems a decent bloke but we need a change & a change of identity. We should be playing a possession based game in the Championship! We also need a head coach who’ll give our young players opportunities #ncfc #otbc
@Zipperslf: Great to see decisiveness by the new board leads. Summer rebuild. Let’s see that release list..#ncfc
@KevBarnbrook:
Wagner Out!
Cuesta In!
#ncfc
@CarlEnglish79: Thank god for that. #ncfc
@sebncfc123: Good to see us moving quickly on this. Hopefully we move quick on an appointment #ncfc
@oldgrumpyman78: Finally …. When it’s too late ! #ncfc
@BenM3011: Fair play to Knapper. But there needs to be more serious changes than just the head coach. Starting right at the top of the club. Personnel. Mentalities. Attitudes. #NCFC
@jacobbowles3: Get inn!! Hope he’ll be gone this afternoon in the end I’m sure new manager with excitement
@jacobbowles3: Good about time we knew what’s coming let’s hope the club can bring in exciting new manager
@KanielDelly: Off you fuck
@yullie79: Bosh..
@Shanefisher993: No hanging around from Mr Knapper. Good!
@Hoolaholic: GET IN, I’m over last night already. Give me CuestaBall baby #NCFC
@DJJLP_: A positive to come from a night of pure and utter embarrassment. #ncfc
@OTBCjayden: FUCKING COME ON
@JLincolnNCFC: Good to see action being taken early. I’d have been stunned to see Wagner survive this summer. #NCFC
@NCFCZeb: PADDY AT THE BACK POSTTTTTTTTTTTTT #ncfc
@rosssanders5: Thank fuck. See ya 👋🏻
@JoeBlackburn42: Farke reminded Delia of what she could’ve had #LUFC
@yesreallyitsme: I like Wagner a lot, he did a good job considering where we were. No ill will towards him at all and I hope the best for him in whatever job he has next. But he’s not a good enough standard to be Norwich manager, let the knapper era truly begin now. #ncfc
@aimeencfc: Good morning 😍😍😍
@RKH4658: Dear @NorwichCityFC, You sacked Wagner 7 months too late but I’m glad we got there eventually! Now you just need to sack Shane The drink driver Duffy please! #ncfc
@NCFCFINLAY15: Cuesta time
@FPL_Chambo: This would be unusually efficient. Promising.
@ddphotograph: Duffy Should go with him. Good luck in championship… again
@ellis_barry: Brutal #NCFC
@Klobo15: Right decision, but I’m not going to celebrate this. He’s a decent and likeable man, but his limitations have been laid bare for all to see this season. Decision should have been made last summer in my opinion. #NCFC
@jamesbaldwin91: David Wagner deserves credit for getting a dire squad top six. No depth courtesy of dismal recruitment. But the TEAM is (mostly) pretty good and he can’t use it. Sainz was outstanding yesterday, even ignoring the added context of being 3-0 down – insanity to bench him. #ncfc
@PatrickJoh21665:
WOWSER….
Not messing around at #ncfc
Failure will not be accepted!
Will be glad to see the back of him! Carlos Cuesta’s yellow army! #ncfc https://t.co/qWgicN0tXu pic.twitter.com/Pl9ZthjCtK

He was an improvement from Smith, but still an old manager who only got us one step forwards than the last manager. Knapper knows who he wants with this news coming out so quick, and in time, we will now judge him through whether the next appointment is good enough or not. #ncfc https://t.co/fvW72aqkRv
