The favourites to become new Crawley Town and Newport County managers are revealed with sackings confirmed after the weekend’s action.
Newport have sacked manager James Rowberry following their disappointing start to the season, sitting 18th in the League Two table after 13 games, just three points above the relegation zone.
The Exiles lost at home to bottom side Rochdale last Saturday, an eighth defeat of the campaign, with patience in Rowberry lost.

Betsy, 44, was brought in earlier this summer after John Yems left following racism and discriminatory conduct allegations.

This is what fans had to say as the favourites to become new Crawley and Newport managers are revealed with sackings confirmed…
ON NEWPORT:
@caitlinjjwebb: Thanks for the memories. Best of luck for the future James 🧡
@Ryan_Russell__: For the best thanks for everything, good luck in the future 👏🏻
@CymruOllie: It’s sad to see him go from a human point of view because he seems like a lovely bloke but I think it was too much too soon. A massive amount of praise and respect to James and Carl , nothing but support and good will for their future ventures 🟠
@StuartB94181596: Didn’t work out, but he gave us some of the best football we’ve seen for years (for a short spell).
@Frederi63983668: Sorry it didn’t work James and best wishes for the future.
@_i_am_jonny_boy: Always difficult when things like this happens. Liked James as a coach, but unfortunately we’ve been in freefall since March last season and home form has been abysmal. Really wish him and Carl all the best, and no doubt they’ve learned a huge amount during their time at the club
@IamBaz84: Right time to act, need to take some time now to get the right person in.
@iiJvcob: Should never of been employed
@byrie19: Thank you for your efforts James. Good luck for the future ❤️❤️
@groundedinnit: Nothing but respect for James and Carl, I’m sad it didn’t work out and wish them every success in the future.
@JPouch: Really wanted it to work out for James, being a local lad, but he needs to gain more experience to manage at this level! I wish him and Carl Serrant all the best in the future! 🖤🧡
@CountyIssy: This is such a shame, I really do think he was the right person for the job. Thank you James for your passion, your love for all things Newport, for being a gentlemen and I wish you all the best for your next move 😢😢🧡🖤
@shaneprice_87: correct decision by the board 👏🏻👏🏻 hope they don’t employ Humpty Dumpty next time we need an experienced manager who knows this league or above UTC. To the board don’t go for the cheap option again or a coach 🙈🙈🙈
@_Annibyniaeth: Sad. James is clearly a talented coach but as a manager I’m not so sure. Coming on top of his recent health issues this will come as a real blow to him personally. But the Board have done the right thing for Newport County. Now they need to bring in the right manager.

ON CRAWLEY:
@ctfc_fan: Shame it didn’t work but bye
@jamesbendelll: Rob Edwards In
@NiftyNichols: Season starts now
@JedJones13: Shame didn’t work out good luck @kevinbetsy just wasn’t your time, now we can crack on with the league
@MattAddinall: Thanks for nothing Kevin. Roll on Saturday
@archiere1d: Way too late
@fish01551: Correct decision based on results and lack of progress
@JonesFobar: Experienced manager now please, not head coach. We need a genuine shrewd football manager to guide us
@Adam_Page442: John Yems
@peterbellamy: Inevitable. Yesterday would have tipped any balance. Probably best for both Betsy and Micciche, rather than have them suffer further.
@IHickmott: The decision had to be made and I think it is the right one. Shame it didn’t work out and good luck going forward @kevinbetsy. It may take time to stabilise but onwards and upwards 🤞
@mihrod: Sad end, good luck Kevin and Dan
@Freddie_CFCCTFC: @WAGMIUnited @hunterorrell @SportsCheetah John Yems Lee Bradbury David Artell Graham Alexander or Rob Edwards please
@Boydskeet79: Right decision @WAGMIUnited. Kevin seemed like a decent guy but the table doesn’t lie. We need to bring a manager in with L1 and L2 experience because we are deep in a relegation fight
@fictional: Wish Betsy the best in his future, a change had to be made given how everything has went on and off the field up to this point. Hopefully this is the turning point, the next appointment is paramount for WAGMI to get right to instill belief back in the supporters AND players.
@alexander_br: Shame it didn’t work out, seemed a nice bloke and clearly a good coach, but shows you need lower league experience to get tactics and in-game management right
@gregmgaffney: Came across well but 1 win and bottom of the league means no choice. This season is now all about not getting relegated. Much harder to get out of the National League than it is to stay in this one.
@croucher_steven: Real shame it didn’t work out as the plans seemed to be there. Got to be someone with experience now to steady the ship. Rob Edwards would be a great shout if you could get him.
