Favourites for Maidstone manager

After Maidstone United sacked manager Harry Wheeler last week, we’ve taken a look at who are favourites for the job at the Gallagher Stadium.

The former Billericay Town boss replaced Jay Saunders in September but recent form has been poor and seen them fall to 23rd in the National League table, four points from safety.

John Askey was a former player and manager of Macclesfield Town. He left the Silkmen for League One Shrewsbury Town earlier this year, however after a dismal start, he was axed after five months.

Askey won the National League in 2017/18 and was runners up with the Silkmen in the FA Trophy in 2016/17.

Martin Allen is currently unemployed after he was sacked by Chesterfield last week.

It just so happens that the Barnet job is available so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he headed back to them… for a sixth time!

He has also managed Eastleigh, Gillingham, Notts County, Cheltenham Town, Leicester, MK Dons and Brentford.

In his managerial career, he has won League Two (2012–13) with the Gills and the National League (2014/15)
with Barnet.

In October earlier this year, Chris Kinnear was sacked by Dover Athletic after just one win in their first 14 National League games of the season.

Dover chairman Jim Parmenter said it had been a “tough decision”, he added: “Chris has been highly successful with us, but football is changing.

“There has clearly been some poor player recruitment decisions taken and there are also a number of issues around training and our ways of working, which we will be looking at.”
