Fans mock Walsall over their new stadium name before unveiling 2022/23 kits

Fans have took to mock Walsall over their new stadium name before unveiling their home, away and third kits for the 2022/23 season.

Earlier this week, the club had revealed its partnership with Banks’s, which held the first sponsorship of the ground since 2007, would come to an end following the conclusion of this season.

Walsall’s ground will become now become the ‘Poundland Bescot Stadium’, after a new partnership was agreed with the discount retailer. Wait until you hear Jeff Stelling grumble at having to say such a name on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday.

The West Midlands-based store chain will also feature on the club’s two-tier stand and be the main front of shirt sponsor.

And while some have chosen to joke about it, others have praised the club for going into sponsorship with a local company who have done very well across the country making a huge amount of money especially during the difficult times financially for everyone right now.

WALSALL STATEMENT:

Walsall Football Club is delighted to confirm that Poundland will be our new Principal Partner for the next three years in what will be the largest commercial partnership in the club’s history.

The retailer, whose customer support centre is based in Walsall, will have the naming rights of the stadium which will be known as the Poundland Bescot Stadium and will have their branding adorned across the top of the two-tier stand and in various locations around the stadium bowl.

They will also be our shirt sponsor and we are thrilled to reveal our 2022/23 home, away and third kits.

Poundland have been commercial partners since early 2020, having sponsorship rights of the main stand and has also featured on the Midpoint advertising screen overlooking the M6 – the largest free standing Out of Home (OOH) platform in Europe.

The discount retailer has been involved in some fantastic initiatives since working with the club including a generous donation of toys to the annual Christmas toy appeal as well as making a donation of 500 Easter eggs that were handed out at our recent open training session and holiday soccer camps.

Poundland has had a presence in the Walsall area for many years, having been established in the Midlands a little over 30 years ago with just a single store.

It now has over 850 stores all across the UK & Ireland offering a huge range of top brands and great quality own brand items, employing around 18,000 colleagues and serving approx. seven million customers every week.

Our new strips will see Poundland’s branding on the front and back of the strip.

The strips are manufactured by our Official Technical Partners Errea for the sixth season.

All strips will feature the Black Country flag inside the neck of the shirt.

The home strip is red with red shorts and red socks. It features a green trim on the collar and a green and white trim on the sleeve.

It also sees ‘The Saddlers’ written across the front.

Our away kit has a retro feel to it and is a nod to our 1988/89 away strip. It’s white with stripes and features a red trim on the collar.

The third kit is predominantly black with a green paintbrush effect.

Details on prices and when the new strips will be on sale will be confirmed in due course.

Poundland have been working with the club for just over two years and are excited to become principal partner and continue growing an already strong relationship.

Barry Williams, Poundland’s managing director was delighted at the development of the partnership with the club.

“While we’re a national wide retailer, involved in communities right across the UK, Walsall and the Midlands will always be our home,” he said.

“And that’s why we’re so proud to take our relationship with Walsall Football Club to the next level as we support the role they also play in our community.

“We’re very honoured to be able to add our name to the Bescot Stadium we know the fans and the community love.”

The League Two club’s chairman Leigh Pomlett added: “I am delighted that Poundland will be our principal sponsors.

“A company with their Head Office in Walsall sponsoring the town’s football club seems so fitting.

“The relationship has become closer and closer over time but this takes it to a new level.

“I am also pleased that Poundland will be a very active and supportive sponsor.”

As mentioned, fans took to mock Walsall over their new stadium name before their unveiling 2022/23 kits…

@KingOfFM: The Poundland Stadium 🤣 It will make the Bescot sound like the most tinpot stadium in English league football. To make it even worse, they are shirt sponsors too. I do feel sorry for Walsall fans. Plenty of ribbing for them coming next season.

@ScottWfc1888: Absolutely embarrassing

@wfcforlife: no way am i buying a kit that has that sponsor on it

@CampoverdePadel: For fucks sake 🙄 pound land on the shirts

@TomJebb8: I love Walsall but the board don’t half make us look like a laughing joke at times. However let’s give them a chance, they might not be as bad. Just hope the shirts are worth a pound as I’m in no hurry to buy them.

@StarrOutlook: Yeah nothing against Poundland but I ain’t buying a shirt with that on it

@Bunchie1975: Those shirts look awful

@pedalsingh: Not even April 1st. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤣

@Nathan_Tong79: Good grief 🤦 we’ve been shopping there for years already with our signings but now to have Poundland on the shirt and stadium is another level of embarrassing!! #saddlers

@dinglette1972: The Poundland Stadium. Smallsall finding their level. Christ alive 🤣

@themill72: Fucked if I’m walking around with poundland on my shirt

@ElNombre479: Cheers lads, don’t get enough Tinpot jokes as it is 👍

@Fobba1988: Am I happy we’ve got a large(r) sponsorship deal with a successful brand that might invest enough to get us out of this league? Yup. Am I gonna pay money to walk around in a shirt with “Poundland” splashed across my chest? Nope. #walsallfc #saddlers #uts

@BoxingShrew: How extraordinarily tinpot 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

@aleyaawn: Poundland Stadium.. fucking seriously this is embarrassing

@MoleYid1988: Bad enough it’s on the front but on the back aswell ffs 🙈

@DW_wwfc: 😂😂😂😂 you couldn’t write it

@ChrisWhite_21: The Poundland Bescot Stadium 😂😂😂. Leave me out

@danny_southall:
Had it with this club and it’s board.
Poundland across the front of our shirt and now play at the ‘Poundland Bescot Stadium’.
Hope the sponsorship will account for the drop in shirt and ticket sales.
Hope it’s a pound to get in next season though.
Joke club.

@JordHunt98: Those kits are awful 🥴
