Fans have been left furious on social media at what Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero did to a lineswoman in Saturday’s game.
The striker put his hand on assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis’ shoulder during Saturday’s win over Arsenal, and what a stir it’s gone on to cause!
The incident was shared widely on social media, with Aguero’s conduct under scrutiny, however manager Pep Guardiola has defended the actions of the 32-year-old.

“Come on guys,” Guardiola said after the match. “Sergio is the nicest person I ever met in my life. Look for problems in other situations not in this one.”
Sky Sports pundit Micah Richard said Aguero “should know better”, with the former Premier League defender also praising Massey-Ellis’ handling of the situation after the official raised her hand in reaction to the touch before motioning for the striker to walk away.
“I just think he didn’t mean to do it really,” Richards said. “You’ve got to respect the officials. I think she deals with the situation really well. He’ll know better than that.
“I don’t think we need to go over the top on it. He knows not to be touching the officials, it doesn’t look good.
Richards added: “It’s just not a good look. We don’t need to do that, you start going down a road you don’t want to go down – he should know better than that.”
Labour MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan was critical of Sergio Aguero’s actions when referencing the incident via her Twitter account.
She said: “Who does Aguero think he is? Completely unacceptable.”
Aguero was playing his first match for City since June after recovering from a serious knee injury.
Fans were left furious at what Aguero did to the lineswoman, others however downplayed it, check out those tweets…
When this happened, I turned to my son & said “Did you see that? That’s Fd up.” Here’s why… I can’t recall ANY player touching any line-judge ever. Yeah refs get touched, in some leagues more than others. They are on-field, in the mix, so it’s at least understandable… /1

If that lineman was a bloke it would have played out in one of two ways
1) he wouldn’t have done it
2) he would’ve been booked for doing it
“Females shouldn’t be involved”, it’s 2020 mate. Keep up.

And then he would proceed to break every bone in your weary little body

Exactly this. I said straight away he would not have tried that if the official was a man.
I’m actually more fucked off about this than the score right now

Putting hands on a match official is wrong but I have seen some idiots here call it a “sexual assault” coz it’s a woman. Grasping at straws.

She did look uncomfortable though.

No way…. it was clear what he was doing and he’d never do it to a male linesman
— Chris (@ChrisSt32592124) October 17, 2020
She was treated differently, he would never touch a man in that way because they would deck him.

You go and grab a female co-worker by the neck and see where it lands you.

Thought he was apologising for the initial exchange but yeah, weird putting his hand on her shoulder

Aguero is gonna be in big big trouble for touching the lineswoman like that ????

That Aguero hand on the lineswoman is up there with the time I drunkenly high fived Jimmy Saville whilst he was running the London Marathon.
— Mel (@MelOreilly1970) October 17, 2020
Did aguero just drag that lineswoman by neck?
— Someone Literally (@matematamatic) October 17, 2020
The audacity of Aguero to put his arm over lineswoman Massey-Ellis’ shoulder. Anybody else notice that? Don’t think a player can go and do that. It wasn’t even a casual incident.
