Fixtures are expected to be played prior to that date, behind closed doors, whether that be part of the 2019/20 or 2020/21 season.
There will be a lot of optimism riding on that considering the government’s warning that social distancing measures could be in place until at least Christmas 2020.
Championship, League One and League Two clubs have been told not to return to training until May 16 at the earliest, with plans in place to conclude the campaign over an eight-week period.
A growing amount of clubs however are calling for the season to be ended, the lower down the football pyramid you go the more clubs rely on matchday income and the prospect of fans being allowed back yet it’s going to be months before that can happen, increasing pressure for a decision to be made.
EFL have sent a letter to clubs to get a better understanding of their finances, especially after some chairmen suggested clubs could go bust.
It has been agreed that fans will be able to watch games live stream via iFollow with 3pm television blackouts lifted.
The revenues from that would come from fans who are non season ticket holders paying for the service.

October is fair enough if that’s the earliest date it’s safe to watch sport but I hope I get a partial refund on my season ticket for any games played behind closed doors or lost altogether.

It’s going to financially cripple some clubs, ours included. BCD is just a no no for me, football without fans is nothing and in any case players couldn’t socially distance themselves. I’d be surprised if there’s anymore football this calendar year.

Tough for clubs to sell season tickets if fans know next season will start behind closed doors.
