David Prutton’s Championship score predictions

David Prutton’s Championship score predictions have been revealed this week, and he’s got plenty to say on each of the fixtures.

The former Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Leeds, Swindon, Sheffield Wednesday, and England U21 footballer who currently works as a presenter, pundit, and commentator has given his thoughts on the outcome of all twelve Championship matches.

After looking at the majority of his predictions, it’s found that last season he was mostly accurate and that if you put the scores he’s gone with into a table, it is was similar to the Championship table. See what he scores he went with below…

Barnsley vs Bournemouth

Valerien Ismael has done a fantastic job so far at Barnsley. The way they survived on the final day last season was fantastic, but they are looking at mid-table now it seems, which would be superb for them.

Bournemouth have had a frustrating week, but they are still a very strong side in this league. I fancy goals in this one, but I think it will be a draw.

Barnsley: 14th – played 15 – won 5 – drew 4 – lost 6 – 19 points
Bournemouth: 2nd – played 15 – won 7 – drew 6 – lost 2 – 27 points

Prutton predicts: 2-2

Reading vs Nottingham Forest

My admiration for Veljko Paunovic went up a lot in how cool he was after their draw with Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, as the Reading boss surely would have felt a lot more decisions should have gone their way. They do seem to be back on track, though.

Things haven’t quite got going for Nottingham Forest under Chris Hughton yet. It feels like he’s still trying to get things sorted out. I feel the results will soon come, but not on Saturday.

Reading: 4th – played 15 – won 8 – drew 3 – lost 4 – 27 points
Nottingham Forest: 21st – played 15 – won 3 – drew 4 – lost 8 – 13 points

Prutton predicts: 2-1

Bristol City vs Birmingham

Given what we have seen from Bristol City this week, having reacted from that defeat against Reading last weekend to win at QPR, it seems Dean Holden is doing a sterling job.

For Aitor Karanka and Birmingham it’s all about mid-table this season, given where they are at the moment. The form going into this one would favour the home side.

Bristol City: 5th – played 15 – won 8 – drew 3 – lost 4 – 27 points
Birmingham: 18th – played 15 – won 3 – drew 7 – lost 5 – 16 points

Prutton predicts: 2-0

Coventry vs Rotherham

This should be a well-fought game. Mark Robins has shown his tactical nous since he’s come back into the Championship, so this might be a different type of game to the ones we saw between these two sides in League One last season.

Rotherham have struggled for points a little lately, but they have had a tough run of games and did put in a great shift to earn a point against Bournemouth last Saturday. I think this will be a draw.

Coventry: 19th – played 15 – won 3 – drew 5 – lost 7 – 15 points
Rotherham: 20th – played 15 – won 3 – drew 4 – lost 8 – 13 points

Prutton predicts: 1-1

Huddersfield vs QPR

Huddersfield had a poor result in midweek but are still building under Carlos Corberan and anything up in mid-table would show real progress for them.

This feels like a finely-balanced game and you never quite know what you’re going to get from QPR. This could go either way, but I’ll back a home win.

Huddersfield: 16th – played 15 – won 5 – drew 3 – lost 7 – 18 points
QPR: 17th – played 15 – won 4 – drew 5 – lost 6 – 17 points

Prutton predicts: 2-1

Swansea vs Luton

Swansea will be looking to bounce back after their defeat at Middlesbrough in midweek. They don’t have the biggest squad, and a few changes may have seen them lose a little bit of momentum in that one.

Luton were superb against Norwich, and what a joy it was to see home fans celebrate goals scored by their side at Kenilworth Road in midweek. This is a big test for them, though. I have to tip the Swans.

Swansea: 7th – played 15 – won 7 – drew 5 – lost 3 – 26 points
Luton: 11th – played 15 – won 6 – drew 4 – lost 5 – 22 points

Prutton predicts: 2-1

Brentford vs Blackburn

David Prutton has predicted this Championship fixture will end up playing out to a 2-2 draw.

In midweek, Brentford came away from Rotherham with a 2-0 victory, whilst Blackburn also won, 2-1 against Millwall.

Brentford: 6th – played 15 – won 7 – drew 5 – lost 3 – 26 points
Blackburn: 9th – played 15 – won 7 – drew 3 – lost 5 – 24 points

Millwall vs Derby

David Prutton has predicted this Championship fixture will go in favour of a 1-0 win to Millwall.

Last time out, Coventry prevented Wayne Rooney from getting his first win as sole-interim charge of Derby, drawing 1-1. Millwall lost 2-1 against Blackburn.

Millwall: 13th – played 15 – won 4 – drew 8 – lost 3 – 20 points
Derby: 24th – played 15 – won 1 – drew 5 – lost 9 – 8 points

Preston vs Wycombe

David Prutton has predicted this Championship fixture will go in favour of a 2-1 win to Preston North End.

Preston have had dodgy form of late, so a 3-2 win against Bournemouth on Tuesday was much welcomed. Wycombe had fans back on Wednesday, but only to see them lose 1-0 to Stoke.

Preston: 15th – played 15 – won 6 – drew 1 – lost 8 – 19 points
Wycombe: 22nd – played 15 – won 2 – drew 4 – lost 9 – 10 points

Stoke vs Middlesbrough

David Prutton has predicted this Championship fixture will play out to a 1-1 draw.

Stoke came away from Wycombe’s Adams Park with a 1-0 win in midweek, whilst Middlesbrough hosted and beat Swansea 2-1.

Stoke: 8th – played 15 – won 7 – drew 4 – lost 4 – 25 points
Middlesbrough: 10th – played 15 – won 6 – drew 6 – lost 3 – 24 points

Norwich vs Sheffield Wednesday

David Prutton has predicted this Championship fixture will go in favour of a 2-0 win to Norwich City.

The high flying Canaries lost 3-1 at Luton Town on Wednesday, however it wasn’t a victory for the Owls, who drew 1-1 with Reading.

Norwich: 1st – played 15 – won 8 – drew 4 – lost 3 – 28 points
Sheff Wed: 23rd – played 15 – won 3 – drew 6 – lost 6 – 9 points*

Watford vs Cardiff

David Prutton has predicted this Championship fixture will end up playing out to a 2-2 draw.

Watford could only draw 0-0 with Nottingham forest in midweek, whereas Cardiff won 3-0 against Huddersfield.

Watford: 3rd – played 15 – won 7 – drew 6 – lost 2 – 27 points
Cardiff: 12th – played 15 – won 5 – drew 5 – lost 5 – 20 points
