Coventry City boss Mark Robins hits out at keyboard warriors after criticism on social media

Coventry City boss Mark Robins hits out at keyboard warriors after he and his side received criticism on social media.

The 54 year old responded to a question on a surge in negativity online following the Sky Blues’ defeat to Swansea last weekend.

The result meant Coventry sit 19th in the Championship table with 5 points from 6 games played, one point above the drop zone going into this weekend’s matches.

His side get set to take on for a trip to Leeds United, who sit 6th with 11 points from the same games played.

Questioned about social media and if it’s a place to stay away from, he said, per Coventry Live: “I don’t participate in it and I really do not care. I don’t care at all.

“People can say what they want to say, about individuals, about me, about what they want because these are people who, if they stood in front of you, they wouldn’t say anything.

“And I think it can be a really nasty place. And I don’t know why people do it, what people get from it. If people say nice things about me, what does that matter? Just be yourself, just be a nice person and go about your business and try to do the right things, and that’s all we’re trying to do. We’re trying to entertain people and make sure we do the best we possibly can do, and that’s what we strive to do every day.”

The past week building up to the weekend…

“They’ve done some good work, and we’ve looked back at the game last week and spent a bit of time on that and went through what we needed to going into this game.

We move on pretty quickly from the Swansea game because you have to and also making sure you pick up the elements you have to going into the next game.

There are a lot of games which are similar this season because teams are setting up very similarly. The number of players they commit forward in attack and into spaces and control from the back and how you can exert the pressure.

However, having said that, you go into different environments at different stage of the season.

This is a game whilst you look forward to all the games, this is always a good game and good atmosphere. Elland Road is always a good place to go and play if you’re a footballer, but it can be tough also.”

Coming up against Leeds United…

“They’ve got a lot of good players, even though they’ve sold some for lots of money, they’ve replaced them pretty well.

They’re managed really well, and Daniel Farke has done an incredible job and was really unlucky last season, as we were the season before not to go up and they will be looking to do that this season.

The pressure is different at Leeds United compared to what it is at Coventry City, although we want the same end goal, I think the demands are greater for Daniel than they are for me here.

It is an interesting game and one we’re looking forward to and hopefully we can contest it in a better way than we did last season, even though it was a draw last year, we didn’t really take part in the game from an attacking point of view.

We want to try and pick up the three points at a difficult place to go.”

The challenge this weekend…

“They’ve got really good players there’s no doubt. They’re on the front foot and they want to press and the spaces they take up are really intelligent and they have intelligent players.

They’ve lost a number of players, but they still have a lot of talent there and they look a threat.

We will have to be at our best again, but I want us to take part in the game properly if we can do and that is something we will be looking to do.

When we have possession of the ball, we want to make better use of it than what we did last season.”

Jamie Allen’s injury diagnosis…

“He has an MCL injury and will be out for a significant period of time, which will be around 8-10 weeks.

He’s been through quite a torrid 12 months with various issues, but he doesn’t do anything by halves. If he has an issue, it’s an issue and clearly it’s a blow and for Jamie and us, we will do everything we can to help him get over it as quickly as he can do.

He will be in a brace for a while, so he may as well rest from home and hopefully that can settle down quickly.”

Ben Sheaf’s return from injury…

“Ben has trained all week. With every day that goes by he is closer to the team and that is a real positive and has been for a while.

Last week against Swansea we needed to try and get back into the game and make the more attacking changes in the game, which meant I decided not to bring him on, although I could have done with bringing him on to get him some minutes in the game.

He understood that and we have had this week to work with him and do the work we needed to do to get him closer.”

Raphael fitness update…

“Rapha was on the grass yesterday and is on the grass now which is a major step forward and we have to see where his level is because he’s been out for a long time, so we will see where he’s at.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Coventry City boss Mark Robins hits out at keyboard warriors after criticism on social media…

@MhHoban: It can and is a nasty place, also a sense is spoken. Club need to admit the transfer window has been far too heavy on strikers, overlooking the weakness of midfielders.Last season we had two strikers score nearly 40 goals, yet we still added 2 more

@Richard42617409: I have huge respect for MR , but personally, If I was given the opportunity 2 speak face 2 face with him ( and the players), I wod express my current concerns in exactly the same way I do on X. Let’s hope we get something tomorrow and start climbing the league. PUSB.

@Swissy_____: If he thinks X is bad, he better not think about Facebook 😂😂

@tagz96CCFC: can’t thank the man enough for what he’s done for the club even if I’m critical of him atm BUT He doesn’t help himself either and I say again he’s too protected. We got told to think big this season and think of prem. can’t be bashing us as fans cause your underachieving #PUSB

@WayneEveri75947: Interesting comments…..the players and staff are all big boys now , so I presume they all enjoy the adulation when things are going well , so what’s wrong with having an opinion when things aren’t going so well. Adulation and criticism is part of everyone’s working life 👍

@Scott9Steve: He’s right

@andy_cov93: I’ll tell you what is nasty, Mark. For 2 years straight the club not sending a new signing to join my generous welcoming offers of food and pints at Wetherspoons across the CV region

@adamreeve87: Walking in a robins wonderland for the last 10 minutes of the game tomorrow SBA – no matter what the score #pusb
