Court issues warrant for arrest of much loved former Bolton player

Reports have emerged yesterday which suggest that a court in Nigeria has issued a warrant for the arrest of a Jay Jay Okocha for failing to turn up there.

The former Bolton Wanderers player (between 2002 and 2006) is now a wanted man in a country he’s played 73 times for after he failed to show at court on numerous occasions.

He was meant to appear to answer why he had not been paying his income taxes when first asked to go to court in October 2017, before the judge finally handed out a warrant to arrest him last month.

Lagos State Ministry of Justice has charged Okocha with three counts of “failure to furnish his return of income” say reports in Nigeria.

It seems however the player has ‘still not been brought in’ despite the arrest warrant being put out on the 29th of January and the court date initially being the 19th of February.

The case has been rescheduled for the 15th of April, where it’s expected that Okocha will appear to defend himself.

It was only in the last year that Jay Jay was awarded as the best ever Bolton player by the club’s supporters and was even suggested the former Nigeria international could have return to the Trotters as a coach, nothing came of that.

Other teams he has played for throughout his 18 year career are Borussia Neunkirchen, Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahçe, PSG, Qatar SC and Hull City.

Following the news coming out onto social media, Bolton fans took to Twitter to give their reaction on it with some seeing the funny side to it all – check out what they had to say on the next page.
