Billericay forced to put out club statement after claims they signed Jay Emmanuel-Thomas

Billericay Town have denied signing former Arsenal and England youth international Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

Several media outlets had reported that the 27-year-old former Bristol City, Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers forward had signed for the National League South club on yesterday evening, after the club introduced him on social media.

Supporters were left confused thinking the club had just announced the signing of the forward.

The former Arsenal youngster played for Ricay last night in their 3-1 friendly win at Maidstone United, however, Emmanuel-Thomas denied reports he has signed for the club. Via Instagram’s stories feature, he posted the following:

‘I have NOT signed for Billericay, just to make that clear !!!’

The club then tweeted:

‘Club statement – Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, to be clear we haven’t signed or made any form of statement to say Jay has signed! we are looking at him as he is us, negotiations are ongoing, keep an eye on the social pages for updates’
