Amusing Checkatrade advert near Old Trafford appears with stadium crumbling onto fans

An amusing Checkatrade advert near Old Trafford appears with Manchester United’s stadium reportedly crumbling onto fans.

Supporters who went to the ground for Man Utd’s 3-1 defeat to Man City in the Women’s Super League on Sunday have published news photos showing the state of it.

Unfortunately, it’s claimed that part of the Old Trafford ceiling fell on two supporters, with @D16S1972 writing: “If you ever need further proof that Old Trafford is indeed Falling Down…B lock N2402 ceiling parts fell on 2 supporters at the ladies game today….absolute shit show. #GlazersOut.”

A fan emailed the club about it, with the club responding: “Manchester United takes the safety of our supporters extremely seriously.

“Working in partnership with key stakeholders including Greater Manchester Police, we constantly review our safety and security procedures to help ensure the safety of all supporters, visitors and staff at Old Trafford.

“We will ask our maintenance team to check the area in the photos and if you do have further information about specific areas please let us know.

“In the meantime we can assure you Old Trafford is structurally sound and carries all the necessary safety certificates.

“We look forward to welcoming you to Old Trafford.”

@D16S1972 proceeds to reply to a tweet with a photo, saying: “That happened in the N2401/2402 stairwell leading to the concourse bar. Enough staff there when they were informed for them to absolutely know. Trust me…. they knew about it….”

Amid news the ground is crumbling, Mike Minay uploaded a photo, coming across this Checkatrade advert near Old Trafford.

The advert says:
“Leaky roof ✔️
Leaky defence ❌

There are some things that even Checkatrade can’t fix.”

There has also been a leak in the roof of the stadium, with more media coming out showing just how much Old Trafford needs repairs.

Incoming minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to put £250m into the club so that they can improve the infrastructure of Old Trafford.

The roof has been leaking for years, leading to taunts from away fans who burst into chant mocking the stadium for falling down.

Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail recently shared his experience visiting it, saying there had been ‘trolleys filled with rubbish stand on a car park next to a giant red skip’, a leaky roof, white paint has withered from the cantilevers to expose metal and rust beneath, decay everywhere, a light fitting with exposed wiring hangs from a wall, so it’s no wonder the FA decided not to include it in the Euro 2028 bid.

His report goes on to add that a spokesperson said that the club ‘invests millions a year in maintenance and improvements to Old Trafford to ensure high-quality experiences for everyone who uses the stadium’.

Adding: ‘Maintaining one of the world’s most historic stadiums is a never-ending process and one we are committed to continuing,’ and claim the hygiene report was ‘not representative of the high standards upheld by our staff’.
