As the fixture lists have been revealed recently, we’ve taken a look back at eight matches, all named by FourFourTwo, that were memorable opening day clashes from over the years.
In this collection of games, 35 goals were scored in total and some of the results were quite surprising.

1992/93 – ARSENAL 2-4 NORWICH CITY
Arsenal got off to a great start, who were 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Steve Bould and Kevin Campbell. Norwich however went on to produce a stunning late comeback.
Mark Robins got the Canaries a goal back after he headed home a free kick with 20 minutes left to go.
David Phillips took the chance to gain advantage from an a David Seaman error to equalise.
Ruel Fox put the visitors in front with a low finish in the 82nd minute.
Just two minutes later, Mark Robins went on to chip Seaman from 30 yards to grab the fourth for the Canaries.
1996/97 – DERBY COUNTY 3-3 LEEDS UNITED
It was Derby County’s first year in the Premier League and for their first game of the season they drew with Leeds United at home.
The game played out to a thrilling conclusion with five goals being scored in the final 18 minutes as the teams shared the spoils and the fixture ended 3-3. A disappointing end for Leeds United however, after they’d led for the majority of the fixture courtesy of a Laursen own goal.
