5 Footballers Who Visit Casinos

Throughout history, footballers have earned themselves a reputation for being flashy and spending lots of money. Therefore, it’s hardly surprising to spot footballers playing in different casinos around the world, whether it’s in the UK or US.

At casinos, footballers get to blow off some steam, interact with fans, and have a good time away from the field. This is why it’s especially common to see footballers in casinos during the summer and pre-season, as clubs allow their players to relax and have more time off during these periods.

So, which footballers enjoy gambling in casinos? Here’s all you need to know:

1) Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney – who fans know more commonly as “Wazza” – has made it an open secret that he loves to visit casinos. During his time as a player, Wayne was regularly spotted in and around Manchester, going to the various different casinos in the area.

For example, back in 2017, Wayne allegedly went to one of Manchester’s most popular casinos and gambled with £500,000. In other words, he was casually carrying around half a million pounds with him – which is seemingly no big deal to him!

Over recent years, casinos across Europe, America, and Australia have slightly declined in popularity. This is because online casino gambling in Australia has taken over instead. Now, footballers and everyday people can gamble from home using their smartphones, which makes playing and enjoying the thrill of a casino a lot more convenient.

2) Joey Barton

Joey Barton became a notorious name for his behaviour on and off the pitch. Off the pitch, Joey stated that gambling was a full-time hobby for him. He enjoyed both casino games and betting on football matches, from Premier League to League Two games.

However, Joey broke the gambling rules stated by the FA (as footballers must abide by stricter rules than others), which led to him retiring early.

3) Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo is one of the best athletes of all time and has said on many occasions that discipline is the key to his success. Without it, he wouldn’t be the athlete he is today.

However, this doesn’t mean that Ronaldo is against going to parties when he’s not playing – quite the opposite, in fact. On many occasions, Ronaldo has been spotted playing in casinos across Spain and England. It’s even said that he’s an expert poker player, but he has yet to comment on this publicly.

4) James Maddison

Leicester City star James Maddison once famously visited a casino despite claiming that he was injured. This led to him receiving a bad wrap from the media, from which he has since bounced back. James still enjoys gambling but makes sure he only does it when he’s injury-free.

5) Neymar

Finally, there’s Neymar. Since 2010, Neymar has sponsored and participated in various poker tournaments – it’s his favourite casino game. He also talks about this a lot on his Twitter and Instagram.

It’s highly likely that Neymar will enter the gambling industry after his retirement, possibly by starting his own online casino or launching a chain of land-based establishments across Europe.
